BGMEA now part of government’s water resource protection efforts

The government of Bangladesh has taken an initiative to recharge ground water aquifers through Manage Aquifer Recharge (MAR), a globally acclaimed technique of preserving ground water resources.
As the groundwater levels deplete due to mass urbanization and industrialization on major watersheds of Bangladesh, the government has formed a high level committee chaired by SDG Coordinator Abul Kalam Azad under the PMO. A Technical Advisory Committee has also been formed to formulate the MAR strategy and guidelines for industrial and urban water management, of which the BGMEA is a part of.
At a committee meeting held on Monday, November 8, BGMEA’s senior deputy secretary of Environmental Sustainability represented the association.
The BGMEA will help formulate the national strategy by constructing them on the principles of SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 12 (Responsible Production and Consumption).
