PM opens BATEXPO 2011

Prime minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina opened the 22nd Bangladesh Apparel and Textile Exposition (Bat Expo, 2011), the country s largest apparel show, in capital Dhaka at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.   Amidst the global economic crises that has hit Bangladesh s textiles industry, which accounts for a major share of the country s exports, Hasina inaugurated the event in order to draw attention of the foreign buyers.   "I have come here in the textile exhibition. I am wholeheartedly grateful to everyone who all is present here," said Hasina.     A total of 146 stalls including of local and foreign garment accessories, garment fabrics, garment technology and warehouse have been set up at the three-day expo.     The expo was seen as a reunion for both local manufacturers and foreign buyers, which would help in expanding the global market for Bangladesh s readymade garments.     Reportedly, opposition leader Khaleda Zia, chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), will conclude the ceremony as chief guest on Monday (December 12).     In the expo, three Indian companies, ten Thai, two Chinese and one Pakistani participated and displayed their products.  Bangladesh is known as the second largest readymade apparel exporter in the world.
