BGMEA Chattogram Holds Views Exchange Meeting on Addressing Current Banking Challenges

A significant views exchange meeting was held between BGMEA Chattogram and its member factories to discuss practical measures for addressing ongoing banking-related challenges faced by member factories, ensuring the financial stability of enterprises, and supporting the sustainable growth of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry.

The meeting took place yesterday (1 August 2026) at the conference hall of the BGMEA Building in Chattogram. BGMEA First Vice President Salim Rahman and Vice President Md. Shehab Udduza Chowdhury attended the meeting and engaged in an open discussion with the members.

Also present at the meeting were BGMEA Acting Vice President Enamul Aziz Chowdhury; Directors Md. M. Mohiuddin Chowdhury and Saif Ullah Mansur; former Vice President A. M. Chowdhury Selim; former Directors Khandaker Belayet Hossain, Mohammad Atik, Amzad Hossain Chowdhury, A. M. Shafiul Karim (Khokon) and Md. Abchar Hossain; chairpersons of various standing committees; and a large number of BGMEA members. The meeting began with the recitation of the Holy Quran by BGMEA Director Shaif Ullah Mansur.

The meeting featured detailed discussions on several key initiatives undertaken by the current BGMEA Board, including the Exit Policy, Loan Rescheduling, the proposed BDT 20,000 crore financial support initiative, Cash Incentive, and FOC-related issues. Members also shared their views and recommendations regarding various banking challenges, financial constraints, and possible solutions affecting their businesses.

Speaking at the meeting, BGMEA First Vice President Salim Rahman said that the current BGMEA Board is working closely with the relevant government authorities to resolve members’ banking challenges, as well as issues related to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Customs, with the aim of further strengthening the global competitiveness of Bangladesh’s RMG industry.

BGMEA Vice President Md. Shehab Udduza Chowdhury said that Bangladesh’s banking sector is currently going through a difficult period. As a result, many industrial enterprises are unable to open back-to-back letters of credit (L/Cs) or secure the necessary financing, with the RMG sector being among the hardest hit. He also highlighted the notable achievements of the current BGMEA Board, including progress on the Exit Policy, Loan Rescheduling, Cash Incentive, and FOC-related issues.

The participating members appreciated BGMEA’s ongoing initiatives to address the prevailing challenges in the banking sector and emphasized the importance of organizing such views exchange meetings on a regular basis to safeguard the interests of the industry.
