On 05 November, 2025, Today, a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) met with BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan at BGMEA Complex in Dhaka.

Among others, Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan, Vice President Rezwan Selim, Vice President Vidiya Amrit Khan, Directors Faruque Hassan, Nafis-ud-Doula, Mojumdar Arifur Rahman and Dr. Rashid Ahmed Hossaini were present.

The IMF delegation included Senior Economists Qiaoe Chen and Ruifeng Zhang, and Economist Ayah Said.

The IMF team was provided with an overview of the current status and future challenges of Bangladesh’s garment sector to assess the country’s overall macroeconomic stability. Both sides had in-depth discussions on strategic ways to sustain industry growth amid global uncertainties.

Key issues discussed included the potential impact of U.S. tariffs on garment exports, the implications of Bangladesh’s upcoming graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status, strategies for sustainable industry growth, diversification into value-added products, and the possible effects of the global economic situation.
