UNICEF’s initiative to improve lives of RMG workers and children

UNICEF’s Children’s Rights and the Garment Industry in Bangladesh Initiative was launched in Dhaka on 3 May.The UN agency’s initiative aims to improve the lives of garment workers and their children.

Addressing the program as special guest, Mohammed Nasir, Vice President (Finance) of BGMEA, said that Bangladesh has made remarkable progress in reducing maternal and child mortality rates. “Our ready-made garment industry has a significant contribution to reducing the mortality rates and improving lives of mothers and their children,” he added.

Mohammed Nasir said: “We have to do more to improve the lives of women and children. Here our development partners and international agencies like UNICEF can play a bigger role.” He welcomed the initiative of UNICEF with development partners to improve the lives of women and children in the garment industry.

KhondokerMostan Hossain, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment;RokeyRafiq, Executive Director, KarmojibiNari; EdouardBeigbeder, Representative, UNICEF Bangladesh; Andres Fanco, Deputy Director, Private Sector Engagement, UNICEF also attended the program.
