In two separate meetings held on July 5 and 7, 2025, at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, BGMEA sought cooperation from non-IBC trade union federations to ensure law and order and maintain a stable labour environment in the garment sector.
The meeting on July 7 was chaired by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan and attended by Vice President Md. Rezwan Selim, Director Asef Kamal Pasha, and Member Mozammel Haque Bhuiyan. The meeting held on July 5 was attended by Vice President (Finance) Mijanur Rahman, Vice President Md. Shehab Udduza Chowdhury, and Director Samiha Azim.
During the discussions, the BGMEA leadership underscored the importance of uninterrupted industrial operations and urged union leaders to discourage unlawful demands, acts of vandalism, and road blockades, which disrupt public life.
President Mahmud Hasan Khan reiterated that worker welfare remains a top priority for BGMEA. He announced the planned establishment of worker welfare centers in Gazipur, Ashulia, Mirpur, and Narayanganj, aimed at resolving wage-related and other labour issues in these areas. He further stated that, upon land allocation by the government, BGMEA is prepared to begin immediate construction of hospitals in these areas. Initiatives for a food rationing system to support workers are also in progress.
The meetings also reviewed the ongoing work of BGMEA’s Labour Arbitration Cell. Agreed to work together to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the industrial areas and allow reasonable time for resolving wage and other legal disputes.
