They had a discussion on possible areas where BGMEA and Brac could work together for the betterment of the RMG industry. Brac has expressed its interest to collaborate with BGMEA in supporting garment factories in adopting sustainable technological solutions along with relevant knowledge. A delegation of Brac showed the willingness when they met with BGMEA President Faruque Hassan at BGMEA PR office in Gulshan on November 27. BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim attended the meeting.

The BGMEA president made this request while meeting with PRI vice chairman at BGMEA PR office in the capital on Saturday.

দেশের উন্নয়নে অন্যতম অংশীজন:ফারুক হাসান, সভাপতি, বাংলাদেশ পোশাক প্রস্তুতকারক ও রপ্তানিকারক সমিতি (বিজিএমইএ) শুধু ব্যবসা-বাণিজ্যই নয়, আন্তর্জাতিক অঙ্গনে দেশের ভাবমূর্তি উজ্জ্বল করতে প্রবাসী বাংলাদেশিরা বলিষ্ঠ ভূমিকা পালন করতে পারেন। প্রবাসী বাংলাদেশিরা যদি পোশাক কেনার সময় বাংলাদেশের তৈরি পোশাককে পছন্দের শীর্ষে রাখেন অথবা বাংলাদেশি পোশাক তাদের বিদেশি বন্ধুবান্ধবকে উপহার দেন এবং তাদের নিজ নিজ কমিউনিটিতে বসবাসরত সবাইকে 'মেইড ইন বাংলাদেশ' পণ্য কিনতে উদ্বুদ্ধ করেন; সেটি শুধু আমাদের রপ্তানি আয়ই বাড়াবে না; আমাদের পণ্যের প্রচারও বহু গুণ বাড়িয়ে দেবে। অধিকন্তু, প্রবাসী ভাইবোনেরা যেসব দেশে বসবাস করছেন, সেসব দেশের নীতিনির্ধারকদের সঙ্গে দ্বিপক্ষীয় বাণিজ্য ও বিনিয়োগ সহজীকরণের ব্যাপারেও আলোচনা করতে পারেন।

WTO postpones ministerial meeting after new variant outbreak The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has postponed the imminent Ministerial Conference after an outbreak of a particularly transmissible strain of Covid-19 led several governments to impose travel restrictions that would have prevented many ministers from reaching Geneva. The 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12), the first such meeting of the WTO in four years, was due to start on November 30 and run until December 3. But the General Council of the global body agreed late Friday to postpone the meeting, according to a statement. No date has been set for the rescheduling of the Ministerial Conference.

EU’s GSP plus benefit: BD against safeguard clause on clothing Bangladesh has requested the European Commission (EC) to remove one particular provision from its GSP plus system to help the country's textile and RMG products address the safeguard measures that are likely to be imposed by the European Union (EU). When asked, BGMEA president Faruque Hassan said they were working with the government to address the issue. "We have raised the issue with concerned authorities during our recent visit to some EU countries, including the UK and Belgium," he said. The BGMEA had talks with the EU diplomats here in Dhaka on the graduation and post-graduation challenges of the sector, he added.

সম্পাদকীয়: ইইউর জিএসপি সুবিধা নেয়া বন্ধে চীনের ঘোষণায় বাংলাদেশে সৃষ্ট বিনিয়োগ স্থানান্তরের সম্ভাবনা: সুযোগ কাজে লাগাতে কার্যকর ব্যবস্থা নেয়া হোক চীনের সাম্প্রতিক ঘোষণাকে পোশাক ও বস্ত্র খাতের কাঠামোগত বিন্যাসে কীভাবে কাজে লাগানো যায়, তার জন্য পরিকল্পিত উদ্যোগ নিতে হবে। উল্লিখিত দুটি খাত ছাড়াও বাণিজ্য, নির্মাণ, চামড়া ও চামড়াজাত পণ্য এবং কেমিক্যাল-ফার্মাসিউটিক্যাল খাতে চীন থেকে স্থানান্তর হওয়া বিনিয়োগের সম্ভাবনা দেখছেন সংশ্লিষ্টরা। এটাকে কাজে লাগাতে যথাযথভাবে প্রস্তুতি নিতে হবে।

‘আমরা কেন লোকসানে পোশাকের ক্রয়াদেশ নিই’:শেখ এইচ এম মোস্তাফিজ, ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক, কিউট ড্রেস ইন্ডাস্ট্রি লিমিটেড কয়েক দিন আগে একটি ক্রেতাপ্রতিষ্ঠান সোয়া তিন লাখ টি-শার্ট তৈরির জন্য আমাদের আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে দর পাঠাতে বলল। আমরা তাদের কাছে গড়ে ২ ডলার ৩০ সেন্ট দাম চাইলাম। তারা জানাল, ১ ডলার ৭০ সেন্টের বেশি দাম দেবে না। কয়েক দফা ই-মেইল চালাচালির পর আমরা সেই ক্রেতা প্রতিনিধিকে জানালাম, এ দামে কাজ করা সম্ভব নয়। ক্রেতা প্রতিনিধির কাছে আমরা বিনীতভাবে জানতে চাইলাম, ‘আপনি যে দাম অফার করেছেন, সেটি দিয়ে কীভাবে টি-শার্টটি করা যায়, সেই অঙ্ক আমাদের বুঝিয়ে দিন।’

Int’l investment summit begins in Dhaka today The country is going to witness a big get-together of investors in the two-day international investment summit beginning today (Sunday) in Dhaka to draw Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Business delegations from around 54 countries are expected to join the summit at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden in the capital. Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) is organising the event tilted “Bangladesh International investment summit (BIIS) 2021” for the first time in the country.
