বস্ত্র খাতে অবদান রাখায় সম্মাননা পেল বিজিএমইএ বস্ত্র খাতের উন্নয়ন, উৎকর্ষ সাধন, বস্ত্র শিক্ষার সম্প্রসারণ ও রফতানি বৃদ্ধিতে অবদান রাখায় বাংলাদেশ পোশাক প্রস্তুতকারক ও রফতানিকারক সমিতি (বিজিএমইএ) সরকারের কাছ থেকে সম্মাননা স্মারক পেয়েছে। গতকাল মঙ্গলবার জাতীয় বস্ত্র দিবস ২০২২ উদযাপন এবং ৬টি টেক্সটাইল শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানের উদ্বোধন উপলক্ষে বস্ত্র ও পাট মন্ত্রণালয়ের উদ্যোগে বঙ্গবন্ধু আন্তর্জাতিক সম্মেলন কেন্দ্রে আয়োজিত অনুষ্ঠানে বিজিএমইএকে এই সম্মাননা স্মারক প্রদান করা হয়। বস্ত্র ও পাটমন্ত্রী গোলাম দস্তগীর গাজী, বীরপ্রতীকের সভাপতিত্বে গণভবন থেকে অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে ভার্চুয়ালি যুক্ত হয়েছিলেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা। বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন শ্রম ও কর্মসংস্থান মন্ত্রণালয়ের প্রতিমন্ত্রী মন্নুজান সুফিয়ান। আরও উপস্থিত ছিলেন বস্ত্রসচিব মো. আবদুর রউফ। বক্তব্য প্রদান করেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা, বস্ত্র ও পাটমন্ত্রী গোলাম দস্তগীর গাজী, বস্ত্রসচিব মো. আবদুর রউফ এবং বিজিএমইএর ভারপ্রাপ্ত সভাপতি শহিদউল্লাহ আজিম। অনুষ্ঠানে বস্ত্র ও পাটমন্ত্রী গোলাম দস্তগীর গাজী বীরপ্রতীকের কাছ থেকে সম্মাননা স্মারক গ্রহণ করেন বিজিএমইএ ভারপ্রাপ্ত সভাপতি শহিদউল্লাহ আজিম।

India approves key sea-air route for Bangladeshi exports Business leaders mentioned that Indian sea-air routes for Bangladeshi exporters are not needed at this time. To use those air routes, much improvement at the land ports of both the countries is needed first. "Currently, no exporters are using Indian airports as it will also increase cost and lead time," said BGMEA Vice President Shahidullah Azim. "Apparel exporters had to use the Kolkata airport during Covid, when Dhaka airport's scanners were not functioning, to meet buyers' requirements," he said.

Such findings come in a research that points out that export potential of Bangladesh's leather goods and footwear remained highly underutilized, thus hindering its contribution to the efforts to diversify the country's export base which has been largely dependent on readymade garments for long. A stakeholder consultation held Monday in Dhaka on 'Increasing and diversifying exports to the UK under Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS)' revealed that the United Kingdom is a prospective market where Bangladesh can expand its export of leather products and footwear.

Whither exporting of RMG waste? Bangladesh is the second largest exporter of Readymade Garments (RMG) and importing cotton, yarns and also fabrics for exporting RMG in the global market. The traditional textile business model of making Textile from virgin materials and then waste in course of production, results in high consumption of raw materials and generation of waste, which contributes significantly to the large and negative environmental impact of the textile industry. For non-collected textile waste, currently there are neither viable re-use solutions, nor alternatives to incineration or landfill which is meant to be abandoned.

Bangladesh promises US to check alleged counterfeiting Bangladesh commerce ministry additional secretary Hafizur Rahman told New Age on Tuesday that the ministry made a submission to the USTR informing IP-related acts, policies and practices in Bangladesh. ‘We do not reject completely the allegation of counterfeiting and we promise to stop the production and marketing of such products,’ he said. Hafizur, also the director general of the World Trade Organisation Cell to the commerce ministry, said that in some cases non-brand items were exported from the country and importing countries might attach tags of different brands with the products.

Bangladesh introduces 68 green finance products Bangladesh is disbursing green loans at three to five percent interest for 68 green products in 11 categories as a part of the move toward zero carbon emission. In 2009, Bangladesh adopted the Sustainable Finance Policy with three categories including solar plant, biogas plant and effluent treatment plant,”said former director of the Bangladesh Bank Khondkar Morshed Millat. He was speaking on the sideline of the Dubai Sustainasummit organised by the US Soybean Export Council (USSEC) on February 7, 2023 in Dubai.  Later, 68 products in 11 categories were adopted for the Sustainable Finance Policy of Bangladesh Bank in 2022, Millat said. The policy includes renewable energy, resources efficiency, alternative establishment, solid management, liquid waste management and so many other products, he added.

Second Dhaka-London trade, investment dialogue due in Dhaka 19 February Bangladesh and the United Kingdom will hold the second “Trade and Investment Dialogue” in Dhaka on 19 February to find ways to make the trade and investment relationship between the two countries stronger, reports news agency UNB. Officials from both sides will share their ideas to improve the trading relationship and find ways to further ease doing business for mutual benefits, officials said on Monday.
