BGMEA seeks govt policy support to achieve high growth vision of the industry Apparel sector leaders have sought the required policy support from the government to meet the high growth vision of the industry. BGMEA President Faruque Hassan made the call while visited Salman Fazlur Rahman MP, Private Industry and Investment Advisor to the Prime Minister, in Dhaka recently. BGMEA Director M. Ahsanul Hoq, Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on Trade Fair Mohammed Kamal Uddin, Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on Schedule Bank Md. Israfil Atique and Chair of BGMEA Standing Committee on Challenged Industry Md. Anisur Rahman were also present at the meeting.

Budget lacks directives for RMG sector: BGMEA president BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said that the proposed budget for the 2023-24 FY lacks specific directives for the export-oriented textile and ready-made garment (RMG) sector.During a post-budget reaction press conference in the capital, he said the sector proposed to reintroduce a 0.5% source tax on export, which was implemented in FY22, and fix it for the next five years. Furthermore, the president of BGMEA thanked the prime minister for several proposals including the reduction of the total tax incidence to 15% on container imports, the waiver of VAT on waste fabrics, the introduction of new HS codes to facilitate technological advancement, and the establishment of a new customs office at the export processing zone to streamline the export and import processes.Meanwhile, Syed Nazrul Islam, first vice president of BGMEA, stated that the proposed budget aims to promote the establishment of export-oriented information technology-based and environmentally friendly industries, with a focus on the development of the export-oriented industrial sector.

No guideline on textile, RMG sectors in budget: BGMEA Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Faruque Hassan says there are no guidelines on the textile and readymade garment (RMG) sectors in the proposed FY24 budget though those are struggling due to low export earnings caused by the ongoing global economic crisis. He made the comments at a budget reaction programme organised by the BGMEA in the capital. Faruque said remittance and export earnings had declined in the last two months year-on-year while the country’s forex reserves dipped by $18 billion in the last 21 months, though the export sector fetched an additional $14.73 billion during the 21-month period.

Bangladesh working to secure strong position as high-value garments sourcing hub: BGMEA chief Bangladesh is working to secure a strong position as a trusted sourcing hub of high-value garments in the world, said Faruque Hassan, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).“The transition from volume to value and quantity to quality will not only increase our export earnings but also will enhance image of Bangladesh in the world,” he observed. He made the remarks while addressing at the annual general meeting and get-together of Bangladesh Garments Washing Technologist Foundation (BGWTF) in Dhaka. Md. Abdus Samad, President of BGWTF, presided over the program.

নগদ সহায়তার ওপর ১০ শতাংশ কর প্রত্যাহার চাই ---- বিজিএমইএ প্রস্তাবিত ২০২৩-২৪ অর্থবছরের বাজেটে পোশাক রপ্তানিতে নগদ সহায়তার ওপর ১০ শতাংশ কর প্রত্যাহার চায় দেশের তৈরি পোশাকশিল্প মালিক ও রপ্তানিকারক সমিতি বিজিএমইএ। সংগঠনের নেতারা বলছেন, যেহেতু নগদ সহায়তা কোনো ব্যবসায়িক আয় নয়, তাই এ সহায়তার অর্থকে করের আওতার বাইরে রাখাই যুক্তিসংগত। বিজিএমইএর প্রস্তাবিত বাজেট বিষয়ে আয়োজিত সংবাদ সম্মেলনে সংগঠনের সভাপতি ফারুক হাসান এ কথা জানান। রাজধানীর তেজগাঁওয়ে আজিজ গ্রুপের কনফারেন্স রুমে এ সংবাদ সম্মেলন করা হয়। এ সময় বিজিএমইএর সহ-সভাপতি শহিদুল্লাহ আজিমসহ পোশাকশিল্প উদ্যোক্তারা উপস্থিত ছিলো।

বাজেটে পোশাক খাতের জন্য সুনির্দিষ্ট দিকনির্দেশনা নেই: বিজিএমইএ প্রস্তাবিত বাজেটে রপ্তানিমুখী বস্ত্র ও তৈরি পোশাক খাতের জন্য সুনির্দিষ্ট কোনো দিকনির্দেশনা পাওয়া যায়নি বলে জানিয়েছে তৈরি পোশাক প্রস্তুত ও রপ্তানিকারকদের সংগঠন বিজিএমইএ। সংগঠনটি বলেছে, পোশাক শিল্পের চলমান সংকট মোকাবিলায় আগামী পাঁচ বছরের জন্য উৎসে কর ০.৫০ শতাংশ বহাল রাখা জরুরি। একই সঙ্গে নগদ সহায়তার ওপর ১০ শতাংশ কর প্রত্যাহার করার আবেদন জানিয়েছে বিজিএমইএ। শুক্রবার রাজধানীতে বাজেট বিষয়ে প্রতিক্রিয়া জানাতে আয়োজিত সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এসব কথা বলেন সংগঠনটির সভাপতি ফারুক হাসান। এ সময় সংগঠনের সহসভাপতি শহিদুল্লাহ আজিমসহ অন্যরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

BGMEA warns RMG factories against business dealings with Hapa Fashion Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has issued a warning to its member factories, asking them to refrain from conducting any business dealings with a specific foreign company, namely Hapa Fashion Pvt Ltd. In a circular, the trade body alleged that the company has issued faulty letter of credit (L/C) or work orders to some members, forcing them to purchase essential fabrics, accessories, yarn and other raw materials exclusively from its designated suppliers. Talking to the FE, BGMEA vice president Mr Azim on Saturday said the company's claims are not correct and it is yet to make full payments to the factories, despite making repeated commitments.
