BGMEA president stresses timely policy to ensure growth of RMG industry Faruque Hassan, president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has emphasised the imperative for timely policy support considering the changing business landscape, global challenges, and needs of the readymade garment industry to keep the sector competitive in the long run and achieve its untapped potential. "It is of utmost importance to provide necessary support to the RMG industry, the prime export industry of Bangladesh, so that it continues to flourish and contribute to the socioeconomic development of the country," he said, according to a press release on Tuesday. His observations came during a meeting with Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain on Tuesday.

রপ্তানি পোশাকের কনটেইনার লোডিংয়ের ‘কাট অফ টাইম’ বাড়াল চট্টগ্রাম বন্দর কর্তৃপক্ষ জাহাজে পোশাক পণ্যের কনটেইনার বোঝাইয়ের সময়সীমা ২৪ ঘন্টা বাড়িয়েছে চট্টগ্রাম বন্দর কর্তৃপক্ষ। দেশের তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানিকারকদের শীর্ষ সংগঠন- বিজিএমইএ'র একটি প্রতিনিধি দলের সাথে বৈঠকের পর এ সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়, যাতে রপ্তানিমুখী সব চালান জাহাজীকরণ করা যায়। চট্টগ্রাম বন্দর কর্তৃপক্ষের বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে উল্লেখ করা হয়, বিজিএমইএ'র আবেদনের প্রেক্ষিতে শুধুমাত্র তৈরি পোশাক পণ্যের রপ্তানি কন্টেইনারের ক্ষেত্রে জাহাজের এই 'কাট অফ টাইম' শিথিল করা হয়েছে। বিজিএমইএ'র ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট রাকিবুল আলম চৌধুরী বলেন, অনেক সময় কনটেইনার স্বল্পতা কিংবা বিভিন্ন সমস্যার কারণে চট্টগ্রামের ইনল্যান্ড ডিপোতে পণ্য বোঝাই করতে সময়ক্ষেপণ হয়। তখন বন্দরে কনটেইনার পৌঁছাতেও দেরী হয়ে জাহাজ মিস করতো। 'কাট অফ টাইম' শিথিল করতে বিজিএমইএ'র একটি প্রতিনিধি দল চট্টগ্রাম বন্দর কর্তৃপক্ষের চেয়ারম্যানের সাথে সৌজন্য সাক্ষাত করি। এর প্রেক্ষিতে বন্দর কর্তৃপক্ষ এই সময়সীমা শিথিল করেছে। এতে রপ্তানি পণ্য চালান শিপমেন্ট মিস হওয়ার ঝুঁকি আর থাকবে না।

পোশাক খাতে চ্যালেঞ্জ মোকাবিলায় সরকারের নীতি সহায়তা চায় বিজিএমইএ পোশাক খাতে চ্যালেঞ্জ মোকাবিলায় সরকারের নীতি সহায়তা চেয়ে অনুরোধ জানিয়েছে বাংলাদেশ পোশাক প্রস্তুতকারক ও রপ্তানিকারক সমিতি (বিজিএমইএ)। বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি ফারুক হাসানের নেতৃত্বে বিজিএমইএর একটি প্রতিনিধিদল মঙ্গলবার (৩ অক্টোবর) অর্থসচিব মো. খায়েরুজ্জামান মজুমদারের সঙ্গে সচিবালয়ে বৈঠক করেন। বৈঠকে সরকারের প্রতি এই দাবি জানায় সংগঠনটি। প্রতিনিধিদলে ছিলেন বিজিএমইএর সিনিয়র সহ-সভাপতি এস এম মান্নান (কচি) ও সহ-সভাপতি রাকিবুল আলম চৌধুরী।

Garment factories going green, driven by buyers and competition Self-motivation, market-driven factors including buyer requirements, and sustaining competitiveness are the key factors that motivate the greening of garment and textile factories in the country, according to a new Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) study.Explaining the different measures taken by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), its vice president Md Shahidullah Azim said the RMG industry has already made unparalleled advancements in green transition. They are considered a global model of a green manufacturing hub and want to continue this momentum toward excellence. "While the factories are making significant efforts to make their production greener and cleaner, the price doesn't reflect it. Because these initiatives come at a higher cost," he said, suggesting research focusing on how they can ensure a reasonable price structure for green transition in this sector. He requested the CPD to focus on other hazardous industries that pollute the environment.
