SM Mannan Kochi nominated as new BGMEA president The elected directors of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) today nominated SM Mannan Kochi as the president of the trade body for 2024-26 tenure. The elected directors also nominated a first vice-president and a senior vice-president and five other vice-presidents for the tenure. Syed Nazrul Islam became the first vice-president and Khandoker Rafiqul Islam the senior vice-president. Five other vice-presidents are Arshad Jamal (Dipu), Md Nasir Uddin, Miran Ali, Abdullah Hil Rakib and Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, according to a statement from the BGMEA.

BGMEA for more investment in non-cotton textile sector Increased investment in the non-cotton textile sector is important to propel Bangladesh's move towards high-value garments, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) outgoing President Faruque Hassan said. Faruque highlighted the export potential in non-cotton products during a meeting with Zhejiang Taihua New Materials Co Ltd representatives at BGMEA Complex in Dhaka. BGMEA Vice President Miran Ali and newly elected directors Mohammad Sohel Sadat and Mesbah Uddin Khan also were present.

বিজিএমইএ’র নতুন সভাপতি এস এম মান্নান কচি বৃহস্পতিবার (১৪ মার্চ) অফিস বেয়ারার পদে নির্বাচন অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। ৮ অফিস বেয়ারার পদে অন্য কেউ মনোনয়ন দাখিল না করায় তারা নির্বাচিত হন। বিজিএমইএ এক প্রেস বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে এ তথ্য জানিয়েছে। প্রেস বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে বলা হয়, বিজিএমইএ’র ২০২৪-২৬ নির্বাচনের সংশোধিত তফসিল অনুয়ায়ী বৃহস্পতিবার (১৪ মার্চ) অফিস বেয়ারার পদে নমিনেশনপত্র দাখিল, বাছাই, প্রার্থীদের চূড়ান্ত তালিকা প্রকাশ এবং সবশেষে অফিস বেয়ারার নির্বাচনের জন্য ধার্য ছিল। এদিন আটটি অফিস বেয়ারার পদে আট জন প্রার্থী তাদের নমিনেশনপত্র দাখিল করে। এর পর বোর্ড সেগুলো যাচাই-বাছাই করে। তার পর চূড়ান্ত তালিকা প্রকাশ করা হয়। বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে আরও বলা হয়, সভাপতি পদে নির্বাচিত হয়েছেন এস এম মান্নান (কচি)। এ ছাড়া, সৈয়দ নজরুল ইসলাম ১ম সহ-সভাপতি, খন্দকার রফিকুল ইসলাম সিনিয়র সহ-সভাপতি, আরশাদ জামাল (দীপু) সহ-সভাপতি, মো. নাসির উদ্দিন সহ-সভাপতি (অর্থ), মিরান আলী সহ-সভাপতি, আব্দুল্লাহ হিল রাকিব সহ-সভাপতি এবং রাকিবুল আলম চৌধুরী সহ-সভাপতি পদে নির্বাচিত হয়েছেন।

ওভেনকে পেছনে ফেলেছে নিট পোশাক রপ্তানি উন্নয়ন ব্যুরোর (ইপিবি) তথ্যানুযায়ী, গত বছর মোট ৪ হাজার ৭৩৯ কোটি ডলারের তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানি হয়। এর মধ্যে ওভেন পোশাকের হিস্যা ৪৪ শতাংশ, আর নিট পোশাকের অংশ ৫৬ শতাংশ। শুধু তা–ই নয়, গত বছর ওভেন পোশাকের রপ্তানি কমেছে দশমিক ৮১ শতাংশ। অন্যদিকে নিট পোশাকের রপ্তানি বেড়েছে সাড়ে ৭ শতাংশ। জানতে চাইলে বিজিএমইএর সভাপতি ফারুক হাসান প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ‘বিশ্বজুড়ে নিট পোশাকের ব্যবহার বাড়ছে। সে কারণে চাহিদা বাড়ছে। ফলে আমাদের নিট পোশাকের রপ্তানি বেড়েছে। এটি অবশ্যই ইতিবাচক। তবে আমরা নিটের পাশাপাশি ওভেন ও সব বাজারে পোশাক রপ্তানি বাড়াতে কাজ করছি।’ তিনি আরও বলেন, ‘আমরা ডেনিমে মূল্য সংযোজন বাড়ানোর চেষ্টা করছি। পাশাপাশি কৃত্রিম তন্তুর পোশাক রপ্তানি বাড়ানোর চেষ্টা চলেছে। তাতে নিটের পাশাপাশি ওভেন পোশাক রপ্তানিতেও প্রবৃদ্ধি বাড়বে বলে আমাদের প্রত্যাশা।’

According to the revised schedule of 2024-2026 BGMEA polls, March 14 was the submission date for nomination papers, selection, and publication of the final list of candidates. Only eight candidates submitted their nomination papers against eight respective positions.
