Mahmud Hasan new BGMEA presidnet : Office-bearers announced The election board of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association announced the list of its eight office-bearers for 2025-27 tenure on Saturday. According to the schedule of the 2025-2027 elections of BGMEA, June 14 was scheduled for submission of nomination papers for the office-bearers’ posts. As there was only one candidate against each post, and no appeal was made by any party regarding the final list, the candidates who submitted nomination papers were finally announced as office-bearers on Saturday. Among them, Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu) has been elected president for the 2025-27 term.Salim Rahman has been elected 1st vice-president, Inamul Haq Khan senior vice-president, Md Rezwan Selim, Mijanur Raahman, Vidiya Amrit Khan, Md Sehab Udduza Chowdhury, and Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury have been elected vice-presidents.

হরমুজ প্রণালি বন্ধের হুমকি ইরানের : এলএনজি সরবরাহ সংকটে পড়তে পারে বাংলাদেশ ইরান ও ইসরায়েলের সংঘর্ষে নতুন করে উত্তপ্ত মধ্যপ্রাচ্যের ভূরাজনৈতিক পরিস্থিতি। এর জেরে পারস্য উপসাগরের হরমুজ প্রণালি দিয়ে তরলীকৃত প্রাকৃতিক গ্যাস (এলএনজি) ও জ্বালানি তেল সরবরাহে ব্যাপক ধাক্কা খাওয়ার শঙ্কা তৈরি হয়েছে। বাংলাদেশ গার্মেন্ট ম্যানুফ্যাকচারার্স অ্যান্ড এক্সপোর্টার্স অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান বাবু বণিক বার্তাকে বলেন, ‘এলএনজির দাম বেড়ে যেতে পারে। যুদ্ধ শুরু হওয়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে এরই মধ্যে জ্বালানি তেলের দাম বেড়ে গেছে। এর প্রভাবে সব খাতেই পড়ার কথা। আকাশপথে পণ্য পাঠানোর ক্ষেত্রে লিড টাইম বেশি লাগবে।’

Apparel exports to EU jump 25.3pc in four months When asked, Mahmud Hasan Khan, the newly-elected president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), termed the growth satisfactory. He attributed the sustained flow of business and a shift from China for the growth while enhanced capacity of the local industry also helped bag more work orders. Mr Khan also said that performance would be higher with improved logistical supports, particularly an uninterrupted gas supply. He, however, raised question over the retention saying there is no specific data on how much value addition is done compared to the overall exports and imports.

টিম গ্রুপের এমডি আবদুল্লাহ হিল রাকিবকে শেষ বিদায় জানালেন সহকর্মীরা রপ্তানিমুখী তৈরি পোশাকশিল্পের অন্যতম শীর্ষস্থানীয় প্রতিষ্ঠান টিম গ্রুপের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক (এমডি) আবদুল্লাহ হিল রাকিবের রেখে যাওয়া অসমাপ্ত কাজ শেষ করার অঙ্গীকার করে শেষ বিদায় জানিয়েছেন পোশাক খাতে তাঁর দীর্ঘদিনের সহকর্মীরা। রাকিবের সহকর্মীরা বলেছেন, আবদুল্লাহ হিল রাকিব বাংলাদেশের তৈরি পোশাক পণ্য রপ্তানিকে ১০০ বিলিয়ন বা ১০ হাজার কোটি ডলারে উন্নীত করার স্বপ্ন দেখতেন। তাঁর সেই স্বপ্ন বাস্তবায়নে সর্বাত্মক সহায়তা করবেন বলে জানান তাঁরা। শনিবার রাজধানীর উত্তরায় তৈরি পোশাকশিল্প মালিকদের সংগঠন বিজিএমইএর কার্যালয়ে আবদুল্লাহ হিল রাকিবের জানাজায় উপস্থিত হয়ে এসব কথা বলেন ব্যবসায়ী নেতা ও তৈরি পোশাকশিল্পের মালিকেরা। সকাল ১০টায় এ জানাজা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

বিজিএমইএর নতুন সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান দেশের তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানিকারকদের সংগঠন বিজিএমইএর নতুন সভাপতি হয়েছেন মাহমুদ হাসান খান। আগামী মঙ্গলবার বিজিএমইএ কমপ্লেক্সে তার নেতৃত্বে নতুন কমিটি দায়িত্ব গ্রহণ করবে বলে শনিবার সংগঠনের সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে বলা হয়েছে। শনিবার নির্বাচিত পরিচালকদের মধ্যে ফোরাম প্যানেলের নেতা মাহমুদ নতুন সভাপতি নির্বাচিত হন। এদিন নতুন কমিটির অফিস বেয়ারার নির্বাচনে কোনো প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী না থাকায় মাহমুদসহ অন্যদের নির্বাচিত ঘোষণা করা হয়। প্রথম সহসভাপতি হয়েছেন সেলিম রহমান এবং জ্যেষ্ঠ সহসভাপতি হয়েছেন ইনামুল হক খান। বাকি পাঁচ সহসভাপতি হয়েছেন মো. রেজোয়ান সেলিম, মিজানুর রহমান (অর্থ), ভিদিয়া অমৃত খান, মো. শিহাব উদ্দোজা চৌধুরী ও মোহাম্মদ রফিক চৌধুরী।

Why 10 economic zones, including BGMEA's garment park, were cancelled Licences of 10 proposed economic zones (EZs), including BGMEA's garment industrial park in Munshiganj, were revoked by the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (Beza) in April.Former BGMEA president Faruque Hassan told TBS that there were complications regarding the land allocated for the park in Munshiganj. "The land price was considered too high, and there were also issues related to the establishment of a power plant in the area. Because of these factors, no apparel entrepreneurs felt confident enough to invest there," he said.

RMG sector pays tribute to Rakib The readymade garment (RMG) sector bid a heartfelt farewell to Abdullah Hil Rakib, founder and managing director of Team Group, at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka, before he was laid to rest at the BAF Shaheen graveyard on Saturday. A stalwart of the industry for over three decades, Rakib died in a boating accident in Canada on June 8. At the farewell ceremony, industry leaders gathered to honour his legacy and pledge to carry forward his unfinished dreams, particularly his vision of reaching $100 billion in RMG exports.

Rising Group MD Mahmud Hasan elected BGMEA president Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, managing director of Rising Group, has been elected president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) for the term 2025-27. The BGMEA election board on Saturday announced that the president and seven vice-presidents were elected unopposed, as there were no other contestants. Salim Rahman has been elected first vice-president and Inamul Haq Khan senior vice-president, according to a statement. Other vice-presidents are: Md Rezwan Selim, Mijanur Rahman (finance), Vidiya Amrit Khan, Md Sehab Udduza Chowdhury and Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury.The 35 directors, including eight office-bearers, are scheduled to take charge on June 16. Earlier on May 31, Forum panel led by Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu won the BGMEA biennial elections securing 31 out of 35 director posts.

Apparel industry bids farewell to ex-BGMEA leader Abdullah Hil Rakib Colleagues from the ready-made garment (RMG) sector have paid their final respects to Abdullah Hil Rakib, managing director of Team Group, pledging to complete the unfinished work he left behind. They said Rakib, also a former senior vice-president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), dreamed of increasing the country’s RMG exports to $100 billion. So, they were committed to providing all-out support to realise this dream. The farewell ceremony took place at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka, ahead of his first namaz-e-Janaza on Saturday. Leaders from the RMG sector gathered to honour his legacy, reminiscing about fond memories through tearful eyes.
