Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu), President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, welcomed the government's openness to dialogue but stressed the need for policy stability and consultation. He proposed district-based tax targets to broaden revenue collection. Shams Mahmud, former  president of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, cautioned that LDC graduation could erode trade preferences. Asif Ibrahim, former director of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association and vice-chairman of NewAge Group, stressed that reviving private investment is essential for job creation

যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সঙ্গে বাণিজ্য চুক্তি সংশোধনের সুযোগ আছে: বাণিজ্যমন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশ ও যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের মধ্যে স্বাক্ষরিত বাণিজ্য চুক্তি অপরিবর্তনীয় নয়; প্রয়োজনে এতে সংশোধন, সংযোজন বা বিয়োজনের সুযোগ রয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছেন বাণিজ্যমন্ত্রী খন্দকার আবদুল মুক্তাদির। তিনি বলেছেন, চুক্তিতে এমন উপাদান রয়েছে, যা ভবিষ্যতে দুই দেশের বাণিজ্যিক সম্পর্ক আরও জোরদার করতে সহায়ক হতে পারে। দুই দেশের অর্থনৈতিক, বাণিজ্যিক ও বিনিয়োগ সম্পর্ক আরও বিস্তৃত করার লক্ষ্যেই এই চুক্তি সম্পাদিত হয়েছে এবং এটিকে ‘হোলসেল নেগেটিভ’ বা ‘হোলসেল পজিটিভ’ হিসেবে দেখার সুযোগ নেই। গতকাল বুধবার বাণিজ্য মন্ত্রণালয়ে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের দক্ষিণ ও মধ্য এশিয়াবিষয়ক সহকারী পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী পল কাপুরের সঙ্গে বৈঠক শেষে সাংবাদিকদের সঙ্গে আলাপকালে এ কথা বলেন বাণিজ্যমন্ত্রী।

New export risks emerge amid Middle East turmoil Exporters say falling demand in the US and the European Union has already strained shipments. New geopolitical tension in the Gulf has amplified fears of disruptions in airspace and maritime routes, threatening supply chains across sectors, from perishable agricultural goods to garments. The president of BGMEA warned that a prolonged war would place multidimensional pressure on Bangladesh’s economy. Higher global energy prices would directly raise production costs, especially in export-oriented garment factories. Passing those costs on to international buyers would be difficult amid weakening consumer purchasing power in key markets, potentially reducing apparel demand.

Middle East war poses fresh threat to Bangladesh exports Shovon Islam, managing director of Sparrow Group – a leading ready-made garment exporter with an annual turnover of approximately $300 million – said, "Some of my apparel consignments are currently stuck at Dhaka airport. They were scheduled to be flown to the UK as air cargo via Dubai. However, with Dubai airport operations suspended, we are in a difficult position." Inamul Haque Khan Bablu, senior vice president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, said, "We have not yet observed any difficulties in shipping goods via sea routes. However, due to the prevailing issues in the Middle East, air shipments have been halted." He added, "We will begin assessing the extent of the damage after monitoring the situation for a few more days. If the conflict persists and airports remain closed, the supply chain will be severely compromised."

মধ্যপ্রাচ্যজুড়ে সংঘাত : অর্থনীতিতে গভীর সংকট তৈরির শঙ্কা বিশেষজ্ঞদের সংশ্লিষ্টরা বলছেন, মধ্যপ্রাচ্যের যুদ্ধ পরিস্থিতির কারণে ইউরোপের বাজারে পোশাক রপ্তানিতেও বড় ধরনের সংকট তৈরি হতে পারে। সুয়েজখাল ব্যবহার করে ইউরোপের বাজারে পোশাক রপ্তানির রুটটিও এখন প্রতিবন্ধকতার মুখে পড়েছে। এখন বাংলাদেশ থেকে পোশাক রপ্তানিতে বিকল্প পথ ব্যবহারের প্রয়োজন হলে এতে সময় ও ব্যয় দুটোই বেড়ে যাবে। এতে পোশাক রপ্তানি আয় কমে যাবে। এছাড়া জ্বালানি তেলের দাম বেড়ে গেলে উত্তর ইউরোপ ও আমেরিকা অঞ্চলের মানুষের ক্রয়ক্ষমতা কমে যাবে। এতে তাদের চাহিদাও কমবে। ফলে পরিস্থিতি স্বাভাবিক না হলে বাংলাদেশের অর্থনীতি একটি গভীর সংকটে পড়তে পারে।

মধ্যপ্রাচ্যে রপ্তানি প্রায় বন্ধ, ধাক্কা ইউরোপের বাজারেও অন্যতম শীর্ষ তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানিকারক স্প্যারো গ্রুপের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক শোভন ইসলাম বলেন, ‘এখন আমাদের পিক মৌসুম। গ্রীষ্মের পণ্য রপ্তানির অর্ডার রয়েছে। এ সময় অনেক ক্রেতার পণ্য লিড টাইম কমানোর জন্য উড়োজাহাজে পাঠাতে হয়। কিন্তু এখন সেটি পারছি না।’ তিনি বলেন, ‘আমার কিছু পোশাকপণ্য ঢাকায় বিমানবন্দের আটকে আছে। এগুলো দুবাই বিমানবন্দর হয়ে এয়ার কার্গোর মাধ্যমে যুক্তরাজ্যে যাওয়ার কথা। কিন্তু দুবাই বিমানবন্দর বন্ধ। বিকল্প ছিল নয়াদিল্লি বিমানবন্দর ব্যবহার করে পাঠানো। কিন্তু আমাদের দিল্লি বিমানবন্দর ব্যবহারের সুবিধা আগেই বন্ধ করে দিয়েছে। এখন হংকং হয়ে পাঠাতে হলে খরচ বেড়ে যাবে।’

দৈনিক আমাদের সময়
বাড়বে আমদানি-রপ্তানি ব্যয় মধ্যপ্রাচ্যে যুদ্ধ ছড়িয়ে পড়ার পর অনিশ্চয়তার মুখে পড়েছে দেশের আমদানি ও রপ্তানির সঙ্গে সংশ্লিষ্ট বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠান। সমুদ্র বা আকাশ কোনো পথেই কার্যত পণ্য যাচ্ছে না। ফলে আমদানি-রপ্তানি দুই দিকেই তৈরি হয়েছে অচলাবস্থা। এদিকে ইরান গত সোমবার হরমুজ প্রণালি বন্ধ ঘোষণা করেছে। ইরানের পক্ষ থেকে হুশিয়ারি দিয়ে বলা হয়েছে, কোনো জাহাজ প্রণালি পার হওয়ার চেষ্টা করলে রেভোল্যুশনারি গার্ড ও নৌবাহিনী আগুন ধরিয়ে দেবে। এ ঘোষণার পর পরিস্থিতি আরও জটিল হয়েছে। এ অবস্থায় যুদ্ধ দীর্ঘায়িত হলে বাড়বে বাংলাদেশের আমদানি ও রপ্তানি ব্যয়।
