U.S. Ambassador Visits BGMEA: Meeting Held on Bilateral Trade and Investment U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen held a meeting with BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan and BGMEA Board of Directors at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara today (Sunday).The U.S. delegation included Labor Attaché Lina Khan, Agriculture Attaché Erin Covert, Commercial Attaché Paul Frost, Political and Economic Officer Srini Sitaram, and Labour Affairs Specialist Saifuzzaman Mehrab. The BGMEA delegation was led by President Mahmud Hasan Khan and included Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan; Vice Presidents Md. Rezwan Selim, Mijanur Rahman (Finance), Vidiya Amrit Khan, and Md. Shehab Udduza Chowdhury; Directors Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Faisal Samad, Mohammad Abdus Salam, Nafis-ud-Doula, Sumaiya Islam, Sheikh Hossain Mohammad Mostafiz, Kazi Mizanur Rahman, and Joarder Mohammed Hosne Quamar Alam; as well as Former Director A.N.M. Saif Uddin.

মার্কিন তুলা ব্যবহারে শুল্কছাড়ের বিষয়ে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের কাছে স্পষ্ট জানতে চায় বিজিএমইএ মার্কিন তুলা ব্যবহার করে তৈরি পোশাকে শুল্কছাড়ের যে ব্যবস্থা, তা যুক্তরাষ্ট্রকে স্পষ্ট করার অনুরোধ জানিয়েছে তৈরি পোশাক খাতের মালিকদের সংগঠন বিজিএমইএ। বাংলাদেশে নিযুক্ত মার্কিন রাষ্ট্রদূত ব্রেন্ট টি ক্রিস্টেনসেনের নেতৃত্বে একটি প্রতিনিধিদল আজ রোববার বিজিএমইএ কমপ্লেক্সে বিজিএমইএর পরিচালনা পর্ষদের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করতে গেলে এই অনুরোধ জানানো হয়। বৈঠকে বাংলাদেশ ও যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের মধ্যে দ্বিপক্ষীয় বাণিজ্যের বিভিন্ন দিক, বাংলাদেশের জ্বালানি খাতে মার্কিন বিনিয়োগ, শ্রমসংক্রান্ত বিভিন্ন বিষয় ও অর্থনৈতিক সহযোগিতা সম্প্রসারণ প্রভৃতি বিষয় নিয়ে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা হয়। মার্কিন প্রতিনিধিদলে ছিলেন লেবার অ্যাটাশে লীনা খান, এগ্রি অ্যাটাশে এরিন কোভার্ট, কমার্শিয়াল অ্যাটাশে পল ফ্রস্ট, পলিটিক্যাল অ্যান্ড ইকোনমিক অফিসার শ্রীনি সীতারাম এবং শ্রমবিষয়ক বিশেষজ্ঞ সাইফুজ্জামান মেহরাব। এ সময় উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিজিএমইএর সিনিয়র সহসভাপতি ইনামুল হক খান, সহসভাপতি মো. রেজোয়ান সেলিম, সহসভাপতি (অর্থ) মিজানুর রহমান, সহসভাপতি ভিদিয়া অমৃত খান প্রমুখ।

ব্যবসায়ী সংগঠনে নারীর অংশগ্রহণ সীমিত, তবে বিজিএমইএতে দৃষ্টান্ত ব্যবসায়ী সংগঠনগুলোর মধ্যে বাংলাদেশ পোশাক প্রস্তুতকারক ও রপ্তানিকারক সমিতি (বিজিএমইএ) তুলনামূলকভাবে একটি ইতিবাচক উদাহরণ তৈরি করেছে। সংগঠনটির ৩৫ সদস্যের পরিচালনা পর্ষদে বর্তমানে পাঁচজন নারী পরিচালক রয়েছেন, যা এখন পর্যন্ত সর্বোচ্চ। পাঁচজনের একজন সহ-সভাপতি। বিজিএমইএর ইতিহাসে এক অনন্য মাইলফলক, যা নারী নেতৃত্বের বিকাশে নতুন দিগন্ত উন্মোচন করেছে। বিজিএমইএতে সহ-সভাপতি হিসেবে আছেন দেশ গার্মেন্টস লিমিটেডের উপ-ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক ব্যারিস্টার ভিদিয়া অমৃত খান। পরিচালক হিসেবে যমুনা ডেনিমস লিমিটেডের পরিচালক সুমাইয়া ইসলাম, মাসকো ইন্ডাস্ট্রি লিমিটেডের পরিচালক ফাহিমা আখতার, রুমানা ফ্যাশন লিমিটেডের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক রুমানা রশিদ ও শাইনেস্ট অ্যাপারেলস লিমিটেডের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক সামিহা আজিম। বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান বাবু বলেন, বোর্ডে পাঁচজন নারী সদস্যের থাকা নিঃসন্দেহে প্রশংসনীয় এবং নারী নেতৃত্বের প্রসারে একটি গঠনমূলক বার্তা বহন করে। এটি তৈরি পোশাকশিল্পে নেতৃত্বের পরিসর আরও অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক করে তুলেছে। যারা বোর্ডে আছেন তারা কেবল পরিচয়ের জোরে নয়, নিজ নিজ যোগ্যতায় এই অবস্থানে এসেছেন। বিশেষ করে ‘সেকেন্ড জেনারেশন’ উদ্যোক্তা হিসেবে তাদের উঠে আসা আমাদের শিল্প খাতে একটি ইতিবাচক পরিবর্তনের ইঙ্গিত দেয়।

BGMEA for continuation of EPB services during Eid holidays The country's apparel makers have urged the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) to keep its services continuing during the upcoming public holidays from March 17 to 10 next for facilitating shipments of garment products. Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Mahmud Hasan Khan recently made the request in a letter to the Vice Chairman of the EPB. "… you are requested to take necessary steps to continues the EPB's services during the public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr (from March 17 to 19) for the sake of uninterrupted export-import activities of the country's readymade garment industry," the BGMEA leader said in its letter.

Chinese co to produce high-value apparel at BEPZA EZ Flourish Garments Bangladesh Co, Limited, a China (Hong Kong)-based company, will produce high-value readymade garments at the BEPZA Economic Zone in Mirsharai, Chattogram. According to a press release from the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority, the company will invest $15.34 million to establish a high-end garment manufacturing factory.In this regard, the company signed an agreement with the BEPZA on Sunday at the BEPZA Complex in the capital.
