BGMEA wants single-digit bank interest rates Garment exporters today recommended to the central bank governor that export loan interest rates be brought down to single digits and that easier loan conditions be provided for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). They emphasised that if incentive funds are not released promptly and regularly, many factories may soon be forced to shut down, which would negatively impact the labour market, according to a statement from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).In a meeting with Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman at his office in Dhaka, BGMEA leaders said that due to liquidity shortages, many factories are struggling to pay workers’ wages and utility bills, including electricity.

গভর্নর পোশাকশিল্পের প্রতি মাসের নগদ সহায়তার অর্থ প্রতি মাসেই ছাড় বাংলাদেশ পোশাক প্রস্তুতকারক ও রপ্তানিকারক সমিতির (বিজিএমইএ) একটি প্রতিনিধিদল গতকাল বুধবার বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের গভর্নর মো. মোস্তাকুর রহমানের সঙ্গে তার কার্যালয়ে এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সৌজন্য সাক্ষাৎ ও মতবিনিময় সভায় মিলিত হন। বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খানের নেতৃত্বে প্রতিনিধিদলটি তৈরি পোশাকশিল্পের বর্তমান বহুমুখী সংকট নিরসনে কেন্দ্রীয় ব্যাংকের জরুরি হস্তক্ষেপ কামনা করেন এবং বেশ কিছু সুনির্দিষ্ট সুপারিশ পেশ করেন। প্রতিনিধিদলে অন্যান্যের মধ্যে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিজিএমইএ পরিচালক মজুমদার আরিফুর রহমান, পরিচালক ড. রশিদ আহমেদ হোসাইনী এবং মাহিন অ্যাপারেলস লিমিটেডের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক আব্দুল্লাহ-আল-মাহমুদ মাহিন। সভায় বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তারাও উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

BB governor assures timely release of export incentives Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman has assured that monthly cash incentives for exporters will be released within the same month once pending issues are resolved. He made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at his office on Wednesday. Among others present at the meeting were BGMEA Director Majumdar Arifur Rahman, Director Dr Rashid Ahmed Hossaini and Managing Director of Mahin Apparels Limited Abdullah-Al-Mahmud Mahin. Senior officials of Bangladesh Bank were also present.
