জাতিসংঘ সংস্থার মূল্যায়ন প্রতিবেদন : এলডিসি থেকে উত্তরণের প্রস্তুতিতে বড় ঘাটতি বাংলাদেশের এলডিসি থেকে উত্তরণের প্রস্তুতি নিয়ে জাতিসংঘের অঙ্গ সংস্থা ইউনাইটেড নেশনস অফিস অব দ্য হাই রিপ্রেজেনটেটিভ ফর দ্য লিস্ট ডেভেলপমেন্ট কান্ট্রিজ, ল্যান্ডলকড ডেভেলপিং কান্ট্রিজ অ্যান্ড স্মল আইল্যান্ড ডেভেলপিং স্টেটসের (ইউএনওএইচআরএলএলএস) মূল্যায়ন প্রতিবেদনে এই মত দেওয়া হয়েছে। গতকাল রোববার রাজধানীর শেরেবাংলা নগরের এনইসি সম্মেলন কক্ষে এলিডিসি থেকে উত্তরণ নিয়ে বহুপক্ষীয় পরামর্শ সভায় প্রকাশ করা হয়। ইআরডি, ইউএনওএইচআরএলএলএস এবং জাতিসংঘের আবাসিক কার্যালয় যৌথভাবে সভার আয়োজন করে। এতে প্রধান অতিথি ছিলেন অর্থ ও পরিকল্পনামন্ত্রী আমির খসরু মাহমুদ চৌধুরী। উপস্থিত ছিলেন পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ড. খলিলুর রহমান, বাণিজ্যমন্ত্রী খন্দকার আব্দুল মুক্তাদির, অর্থ ও পরিকল্পনাবিষয়ক উপদেষ্টা ড. রাশেদ আল মাহমুদ তিতুমীর, ইউএনওএইচআরএলএলএসের আন্ডার সেক্রেটারি জেনারেল রাবাব ফাতিমা ও পরিকল্পনা প্রতিমন্ত্রী মো. জোনায়েদ আব্দুর রহিম সাকি। এ ছাড়া তৈরি পোশাক খাতের দুই সংগঠন বিজিএমইএ ও বিকেএমইএ সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান ও মোহাম্মদ হাতেম বক্তব্য দেন।

NBR signals possible withdrawal of reduced tax rates for RMG exporters The existing reduced corporate tax rates for ready-made garment (RMG) exporters may be discontinued in the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27, National Board of Revenue Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan has said. Speaking at a pre-budget consultation held today (5 April) at the revenue building in Dhaka's Agargaon, he said, "This rate may not remain," in response to calls for extending similar tax benefits to other sectors.

যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানিতে চীনকে টপকে দ্বিতীয় বাংলাদেশ যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বাজারে তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানিতে এখন দ্বিতীয় শীর্ষ স্থানে বাংলাদেশ। পাল্টা শুল্কের কারণে চীনের রপ্তানি ব্যাপকভাবে কমে যাওয়ায় বাংলাদেশের এই উত্থান। যদিও বাংলাদেশের তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানি কমেছে সাড়ে ৮ শতাংশের মতো। চলতি বছরের প্রথম দুই মাসে (জানুয়ারি-ফেব্রুয়ারি) যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বাজারে চীনকে টপকে বাংলাদেশের শীর্ষ তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানিকারক হয়েছে। এ ক্ষেত্রে ভিয়েতনাম রয়েছে শীর্ষ স্থানে। চতুর্থ ও পঞ্চম স্থানে রয়েছে যথাক্রমে ইন্দোনেশিয়া ও ভারত।

শ্রম সংশোধন অধ্যাদেশ আইন হলে মালিক–শ্রমিক বিরোধ বাড়বে: বিকেএমইএ শ্রম সংশোধন অধ্যাদেশে বেশ কয়েকটি ধারা নিয়ে আপত্তি জানিয়েছে তৈরি পোশাক খাতের নিট ক্যাটাগরির পণ্য উৎপাদন ও রপ্তানিকারক উদ্যোক্তাদের সংগঠন বিকেএমইএ। এর মধ্যে রয়েছে শ্রমিকের সংজ্ঞা নিয়ে সূক্ষ্ম কারসাজি, যৌথ দরকষাকষিতে প্রতিনিধিত্ব, শ্রমিকদের ভবিষ্যৎ তহবিল ও চাকরি অবসান ইত্যাদি। শ্রম সংশোধন অধ্যাদেশে জারি করা এসব ধারা যদি সংশোধিত শ্রম আইনে সংযুক্ত থাকে তাহলে শিল্পকারখানায় মালিক-শ্রমিক বিরোধ আরও বাড়বে। শিল্প উৎপাদন ও রপ্তানি ব্যাহত হবে। রোববার (৫ এপ্রিল) এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এই অভিযোগ করেছে বিকেএমইএ। রাজধানীর বাংলামটরে সংগঠনের কার্যালয়ে আয়োজিত সংবাদ সম্মেলন থেকে আপত্তিকর এসব ধারা সংশোধনে প্রধানমন্ত্রী তারেক রহমান ও জাতীয় সংসদ সদস্যের প্রতি আহ্বান জানানো হয়।

The report, released yesterday, underscores a series of shocks the country has faced between 2017 and 2026. These include continued exposure to climate vulnerability; the Rohingya crisis; a prolonged macroeconomic downturn predating the regime change; Covid-19 fallout; political transition; the Russia-Ukraine war; inflation; and balance of payments pressures.

EU's changing apparel market and Bangladesh's export challenges :Mostafiz Uddin is managing director of Denim Expert Limited. Bangladesh’s garment industry has faced some serious challenges of late. In the first eight months of FY2025-26, the country’s ready-made garment exports fell 3.73 percent year on year to $25.79 billion, against $26.79 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year. In the EU—Bangladesh’s biggest apparel market—garment exports slipped 1.03 percent to $7.83 billion in the July-November period, down from $7.92 billion in the same period of FY25, with the bloc accounting for over 48 percent of total RMG shipments in that period.

Export dip, rank jump: Bangladeshi RMG overtakes China in US market In a significant shift in global apparel trade, Bangladesh has overtaken China to become the second-largest exporter of garments to the United States, even as its own export earnings to the market declined at the start of the year. Data released by the Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) on April 4 shows Bangladesh exported apparel worth $1.37 billion to the US in January-February 2026, down 8.53 per cent from $1.5 billion in the same period last year.

ইতিহাসে প্রথম টানা ৮ মাস রপ্তানিতে ধস বৈশ্বিক অর্থনৈতিক সংকট আর প্রতিযোগিতামূলক বাজারে পিছিয়ে পড়ার চরম খেসারত দিচ্ছে রপ্তানি খাত। দেশের ইতিহাসে প্রথমবারের মতো টানা ৮ মাস কমল রপ্তানি আয়, যার মধ্যে কেবল মার্চেই পতন হয়েছে ১৮ শতাংশের বেশি। রপ্তানি উন্নয়ন ব্যুরোর (ইপিবি) তথ্য বলছে, গত বছরের তুলনায় মার্চে আয় কমেছে প্রায় ৯ হাজার ৩৯৫ কোটি টাকা। প্রধান রপ্তানি খাত তৈরি পোশাকের পাশাপাশি কৃষি ও পাটজাত পণ্যেও এই নেতিবাচক প্রভাব পড়েছে।ইউরোপ-আমেরিকার বাজারে কাঙ্ক্ষিত ক্রয়াদেশ না থাকা, প্রতিযোগী দেশগুলোর আগ্রাসী নীতি এবং ঈদুল ফিতর উপলক্ষ্যে কারখানা দীর্ঘ সময় বন্ধ থাকাকেই এই বিপর্যয়ের প্রধান কারণ হিসাবে দেখছেন সংশ্লিষ্টরা। রপ্তানির এই টানা পতনের ফলে বৈদেশিক মুদ্রার রিজার্ভের ওপর চাপ বৃদ্ধি, টাকার মান কমে যাওয়া এবং শিল্প ও কর্মসংস্থানে বড় ধরনের নেতিবাচক প্রভাব পড়ার আশঙ্কা তৈরি হয়েছে।
