বাণিজ্যমন্ত্রীর সাথে বৈঠকে নিউজিল্যান্ডের হাইকমিশনার : বাংলাদেশের শুল্কমুক্ত সুবিধা অব্যাহত রাখবে নিউজিল্যান্ড বাংলাদেশের স্বল্পোন্নত দেশ (এলডিসি) থেকে উন্নয়নশীল দেশে উত্তরণের পরও শুল্কমুক্ত ও অগ্রাধিকারমূলক বাজার সুবিধা অব্যাহত রাখা এবং দুই দেশের মধ্যে দ্বিপাক্ষিক বাণিজ্য ও বিনিয়োগ আরও সম্প্রসারণে আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করেছে নিউজিল্যান্ড। রোববার সচিবালয়ে বাণিজ্য, শিল্প এবং বস্ত্র ও পাটমন্ত্রী খন্দকার আব্দুল মুক্তাদিরের সঙ্গে বৈঠকে নিউজিল্যান্ডের অনাবাসিক হাইকমিশনার ডেভিড পাইন এ আগ্রহের কথা জানান।

Getting work orders from global brands : BGBA urges removing high duty on garment samples The imposition of higher duty on garment samples is making it difficult for buying houses to secure work orders from global apparel brands. It also adds to the financial burden on them and erodes buyer confidence. To help sustain further growth, encourage new entrepreneurs to enter the trade, and assist garment makers in getting global work orders, the trade body for buying houses has urged the government to withdraw the import duty. Garment samples are physical or digital prototypes of clothing used during apparel production to validate fit, design, and quality.They bridge the gap between initial design sketches and final bulk manufacturing, ensuring the end product meets the requirements. Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association (BGBA) also proposed issuing passbooks to its members -- as given to members of the BGMEA and BKMEA - to bring duty-free samples.

অর্থনীতিকে বহুমুখীকরণে আসছে পাঁচ বছরের রোডম্যাপ দেশের অর্থনীতিকে আরো বহুমুখী, প্রতিযোগিতামূলক ও টেকসই ভিত্তির ওপর দাঁড় করাতে নতুন পাঁচ বছরের সংস্কার ও উন্নয়ন কৌশল আজ জাতীয় অর্থনৈতিক কাউন্সিলের (এনইসি) সভায় উপস্থাপন করা হচ্ছে। প্রধানমন্ত্রী ও এনইসি চেয়ারপারসনের সামনে ‘পঞ্চবার্ষিক সংস্কার ও উন্নয়ন কৌশল (২০২৬-৩০)’ শীর্ষক এই পরিকল্পনা তুলে ধরবে পরিকল্পনা কমিশনের সাধারণ অর্থনীতি বিভাগ (জিইডি)। অনুমোদন মিললে আগামী পাঁচ বছরে অর্থনৈতিক পুনরুদ্ধার, প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক সংস্কার, বিনিয়োগ বৃদ্ধি, কর্মসংস্থান সৃষ্টি এবং খাতভিত্তিক রূপান্তরের মূল নীতিগত ভিত্তি হিসেবে কাজ করবে এই কৌশলপত্র।

New Zealand mulls continuing benefits after Bangladesh’s LDC graduation New Zealand has expressed interest in continuing duty-free and preferential market access facilities for Bangladesh even after its graduation from the least developed country category, while also seeking to expand bilateral trade and investment between the two countries. The issue was discussed at a meeting between commerce minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir and New Zealand’s non-resident high commissioner to Bangladesh, David Pine, on Sunday at the secretariat, said a ministry press release.

Changing foreign trade dynamics : India outbids US to become 2nd-biggest BD trading partner Neighbouring India outbids the United States of America to marginally emerge as Bangladesh's second-largest trading partner by February count, in a changing foreign trade dynamics. The United States had secured the position in January, according to the latest data from Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).India accounted for 8.47 per cent or Tk 123.28 billion of Bangladesh's total external trade -- both export and import. The US closely followed with an 8.46-percent share, or Tk 123.17 billion, the data show. China, however, retains its longstanding position as Bangladesh's largest trading partner, accounting for 21.21 per cent, equivalent to Tk 308.79 billion, of the country's total trade in February. Bangladesh mainly imports industrial raw materials, capital machinery and a wide range of finished products from China to support its manufacturing sector and growing domestic consumer market.
