Bangladesh to skip USTR hearing over 'forced labour' A commerce ministry official, speaking to TBS yesterday (5 July) on condition of anonymity, confirmed that neither the government nor the private sector had registered or made any submission to present arguments in Bangladesh's defence at the hearing scheduled for Tuesday. Instead, the commerce ministry has proposed resolving the matter through bilateral negotiations with the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR).BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan and BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem told TBS that the government had not asked them to participate in the hearing. They said the commerce ministry had sought their views on the issue, and they had submitted their opinions in writing.

BB keeps export cash incentives unchanged for FY27 The Bangladesh Bank has kept export cash incentive rates unchanged for the 2026-27 fiscal year, extending existing support for 43 export products. The move aims to safeguard the nation’s export competitiveness amid global demand uncertainty and rising production costs, while balancing the need for a gradual phase-out of direct subsidies ahead of Bangladesh’s graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status. According to a central bank circular issued on Sunday, the export cash incentive programme will remain in effect from 1 July 2026, to 30 June 2027. Item-wise incentive rates, ranging from 0.30% to 10%, have been retained at the same level as in FY26, signalling policy continuity amid global demand uncertainty and rising production costs.

চীনে বাংলাদেশের রপ্তানিতে বড় লাফ দেশের সামগ্রিক রপ্তানি আয় কমলেও ২০২৫-২৬ অর্থবছরে চীনের বাজারে বাংলাদেশের রপ্তানিতে বড় উল্লম্ফন হয়েছে। সদ্য বিদায়ী অর্থবছরে চীনে রপ্তানি বেড়ে ৮২১ মিলিয়ন মার্কিন ডলারে পৌঁছেছে, যা আগের বছরের তুলনায় ১৮ দশমিক ২৪ শতাংশ বেশি। রপ্তানি উন্নয়ন ব্যুরো (ইপিবি) সূত্রে জানা যায়, গত পাঁচ অর্থবছরের মধ্যে এটিই সর্বোচ্চ রপ্তানি আয়। ২০২১-২২ অর্থবছরে যেখানে রপ্তানি ছিল ৬৮৩ মিলিয়ন ডলার, সেখানে ২০২৫-২৬ অর্থবছরে তা বেড়ে ৮২১ মিলিয়ন ডলারে পৌঁছেছে। অর্থাৎ, পাঁচ বছরে মোট ১৩৮ মিলিয়ন ডলার বা ২০ দশমিক ১৬ শতাংশ প্রবৃদ্ধি অর্জিত হয়েছে।

বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের প্রজ্ঞাপন : পণ্য রপ্তানিতে আগের প্রণোদনা বহাল থাকবে নতুন ২০২৬-২৭ অর্থবছরের জন্য পণ্য রপ্তানিতে নগদ প্রণোদনা অপরিবর্তিত রেখেছে সরকার। রোববার এক প্রজ্ঞাপনে এ তথ্য জানিয়েছে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক। প্রজ্ঞাপন অনুযায়ী, নির্ধারিত ৪৩টি রপ্তানি পণ্যের ক্ষেত্রে দশমিক ৩০ থেকে ১০ শতাংশ পর্যন্ত হারে নগদ প্রণোদনা প্রদান করা হবে। পণ্যভিত্তিক হার আগের অর্থবছরের মতোই রয়েছে, যা নীতিগত ধারাবাহিকতার প্রতিফলন। নির্ধারিত সময়ের মধ্যে রপ্তানি আয় দেশে প্রত্যাবাসন সাপেক্ষে এবং বিদ্যমান বৈদেশিক মুদ্রা বিধি ও প্রয়োজনীয় কাগজপত্রের শর্ত পূরণ সাপেক্ষে এই প্রণোদনা প্রযোজ্য হবে।

Mysterious case of 250 high-risk, loaded containers going missing from Ctg Port At least 250 high-risk import containers flagged for suspected customs offences cannot be physically located at Chattogram Port despite the port having one of the country's most stringent cargo clearance systems. Official correspondence reviewed by The Business Standard shows that Chattogram Custom House has repeatedly asked the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) over the past nine months to identify the physical locations of 250 containers locked in the ASYCUDA World risk management system because of suspected smuggling, misdeclaration or revenue evasion.
