BGMEA rejects reports of gas crisis forcing factory closures | The Daily Star The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) yesterday dismissed as “untrue” reports claiming that garment factories were shutting down because of gas shortages. In a statement, the trade body said factories were not closing due to the gas crisis, although many were operating at 60 percent to 70 percent of their capacity.It also rejected reports involving DBL Group, describing claims that the company had shut its factories because of the gas shortage as “completely false and baseless”. The statement said such misinformation was creating confusion among stakeholders, including international clothing retailers and brands, while undermining the stability of Bangladesh’s garment industry.

নতুন অর্থবছরেও সুখবর নেই রপ্তানি আয়ে জুলাই মাসের পোশাক রপ্তানির প্রবৃদ্ধির বিষয়ে বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান জাগো নিউজকে বলেন, ‘বাংলাদেশের তৈরি পোশাক রপ্তানি গত বছরের একই মাসের তুলনায় ১ দশমিক ৯২ শতাংশ কমে ৩ দশমিক ৮৯ বিলিয়ন মার্কিন ডলার হয়েছে, যা গত বছর জুলাইয়ে ছিল ৩ দশমিক ৯৬ বিলিয়ন ডলার।’ পোশাক শিল্প যখন নানা প্রতিকূলতার মুখোমুখি, যার মধ্যে রয়েছে তীব্র গ্যাস সংকট ও চলমান ভূরাজনৈতিক অস্থিরতা- সেই সময়ে একক মাসে ৩ দশমিক ৮৯ বিলিয়ন ডলার অর্জন একটি ভালো শুরু। ২০২৫ সালের জুলাই মাসে স্বাভাবিকের চেয়ে বেশি পোশাক রপ্তানি হয়েছিল জানিয়ে তিনি বলেন, ‘বর্তমান পরিস্থিতিতে এই উচ্চ রপ্তানির তুলনায় প্রবৃদ্ধি অর্জন অত্যন্ত চ্যালেঞ্জিং। সেই উচ্চ রপ্তানির তুলনায় বর্তমান ৩ দশমিক ৮৯ বিলিয়ন ডলার অর্জনকে নেতিবাচক হিসেবে দেখার সুযোগ নেই।’মাহমুদ হাসান বলেন, ‘পোশাক শিল্প যখন নানা প্রতিকূলতার মুখোমুখি, যার মধ্যে রয়েছে তীব্র গ্যাস সংকট ও চলমান ভূরাজনৈতিক অস্থিরতা- সেই সময়ে একক মাসে ৩ দশমিক ৮৯ বিলিয়ন ডলার অর্জন একটি ভালো শুরু।’‘জুলাই মাসে বিজিএমইএ সম্পাদিত ইউডি (কাঁচামাল ব্যবহারের ঘোষণাপত্র) পরিমাণ প্রায় ২ দশমিক ৮ শতাংশ কমেছে (জুলাই ২০২৫-এর তুলনায়)। অর্থাৎ, রপ্তানিতে চলমান স্থবিরতা দীর্ঘায়িত হওয়ার ইঙ্গিত মিলছে। কাঠামোগত প্রতিবন্ধকতা, বিশেষ করে জ্বালানি নিরাপত্তা দূর করতে পারলে এবং প্রয়োজনীয় নীতি-সহায়তা পেলে আগামী মাসগুলোতে প্রবৃদ্ধির ধারা ফিরে আসবে বলে আমরা আত্মবিশ্বাসী,’ মন্তব্য এ ব্যবসায়ী নেতার। বিজিএমইএ শিল্পের ইতিবাচক ধারা ও প্রতিযোগী সক্ষমতা বজায় রাখতে সরকারের সঙ্গে নিবিড়ভাবে কাজ করে যাচ্ছে বলেও জানান তিনি।

ডিবিএলের কারখানা বন্ধের খবর ভিত্তিহীন, বলছে বিজিএমইএ গ্যাস ও বিদ্যুৎ-সংকটের কারণে ডিবিএল গ্রুপসহ কয়েকটি তৈরি পোশাক কারখানা বন্ধ হয়ে গেছে- বিভিন্ন গণমাধ্যম ও সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমে প্রচারিত এমন তথ্যকে ভিত্তিহীন বলে দাবি করেছে বাংলাদেশ তৈরি পোশাক প্রস্তুত ও রপ্তানিকারক সমিতি (বিজিএমইএ)। সংগঠনটির দাবি, কারখানাগুলো বন্ধ হয়নি; গ্যাস-বিদ্যুতের সংকট মোকাবিলায় ছুটি ও কর্মঘণ্টা সমন্বয় করা হচ্ছে। সোমবার বিকেলে এক বিবৃতিতে বিজিএমইএ জানায়, সম্প্রতি ডিবিএল গ্রুপসহ একাধিক পোশাক কারখানা বন্ধ হয়ে যাওয়ার খবর তাদের নজরে এসেছে। এসব তথ্য সম্পূর্ণ ভুল এবং এতে দেশি-বিদেশি অংশীজনদের মধ্যে বিভ্রান্তি তৈরি হচ্ছে, যা তৈরি পোশাক খাতের জন্য ক্ষতিকর।

ইপিবির হালনাগাদ প্রতিবেদন: বছরের প্রথমেই রপ্তানিতে ধাক্কা এ বিষয়ে বাংলাদেশ গার্মেন্টস ম্যানুফ্যাকচারার্স অ্যান্ড এক্সপোর্টার্স অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের (বিজিএমইএ) সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান বলেন, গ্যাস-সংকট ও বৈশ্বিক ভূরাজনৈতিক অস্থিরতার মধ্যেও পোশাক খাতের এ রপ্তানি সন্তোষজনক। তাঁর মতে, গত বছরের জুলাইয়ের তুলনায় চলতি বছরের জুলাইয়ে পোশাক রপ্তানি ১ দশমিক ৯২ শতাংশ কমলেও সেটিকে নেতিবাচকভাবে দেখার সুযোগ নেই। তবে সামনে কিছুটা চাপের আশঙ্কা রয়েছে। কারণ, ইউটিলাইজেশন ডিক্লারেশন (ইউডি) ২ দশমিক ৮ শতাংশ কমে যাওয়ায় আগামী মাসগুলোতে রপ্তানির গতি কিছুটা স্থবির হতে পারে।

Exports hit 12-month high in July, but slip nearly 1% Y-o-Y Shovon Islam, managing director of Sparrow Group, one of Bangladesh's leading garment exporters with annual exports of around $350 million, told The Business Standard, "Exports are usually higher in July because shipments for the next winter season peak during this period. Large volumes of sweaters, along with woven garments, are exported at this time." Inamul Haq Khan Bablu, senior vice-president of BGMEA and managing director of Ananta Garments, said garment exports are unlikely to grow significantly before December despite July's strong performance. He attributed this to weak global demand, buyers' concerns over Bangladesh's ability to meet delivery schedules because of the gas shortage, and uncertainty surrounding Polish retailer LPP, which may reduce orders from Bangladesh. Bangladeshi exporters have alleged that LPP has withheld payment of around $40 million for exports made to Russian buyers through the company. Industry sources said the dispute prompted LPP to suspend new purchase orders from Bangladesh. "We expect exports to recover from January," Bablu said.He added that buyers have expressed concern over whether Bangladeshi manufacturers will be able to complete orders on time because of the ongoing gas crisis.
