যৌথভাবে আন্তর্জাতিক প্রদর্শনীর আয়োজন করবে বিটিএমএ ও বিজিএমইএ বাংলাদেশের ১০০ বিলিয়ন ডলারের রপ্তানি লক্ষ্যমাত্রা অর্জনে যৌথভাবে কাজ করবে বাংলাদেশ গার্মেন্ট ম্যানুফ্যাকচারার্স অ্যান্ড এক্সপোর্টার্স অ্যাসোসিয়েশন (বিজিএমইএ) এবং বাংলাদেশ টেক্সটাইল মিলস অ্যাসোসিয়েশন (বিটিএমএ)। এর অংশ হিসেবে পোশাক ও বস্ত্রশিল্পে আধুনিক প্রযুক্তির ব্যবহার, উদ্ভাবন ও বিনিয়োগ বাড়াতে যৌথভাবে আন্তর্জাতিক টেক্সটাইল ও পোশাক যন্ত্রপাতি প্রদর্শনীর আয়োজন করবে সংগঠন দুটি। এ লক্ষ্যে দুই সংগঠনের মধ্যে একটি সমঝোতা স্মারক (এমওইউ) সই হয়েছে। মঙ্গলবার রাজধানীর গুলশান ক্লাবে আয়োজিত এক অনুষ্ঠানে এই এমওইউ স্বাক্ষরিত হয়। স্বাক্ষর করে বিটিএমএর সভাপতি শওকত আজিজ রাসেল এবং বিজিএমইএর সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান। অনুষ্ঠানে বিটিএমএ ও বিজিএমইএ সভাপতি ছাড়াও বক্তব্য দেন বিটিএমএর সাবেক সভাপতি এ. মতিন চৌধুরী, বিজিএমইএর সাবেক সভাপতি ও বাংলাদেশ চেম্বার অব ইন্ডাস্ট্রিজের (বিসিআই) সভাপতি আনোয়ার উল আলম চৌধুরী পারভেজ, বিটিএমএর সাবেক সহসভাপতি আবদুল্লাহ আল মামুন এবং বিজিএমইএর সহসভাপতি (অর্থ) মিজানুর রহমান প্রমুখ।

Energy situation to improve from next week, BGMEA tells buyers The apex garment exporters’ body, BGMEA, on Tuesday apprised the global apparel buyers of the prevailing  energy situation and requested up to two weeks of extension for goods delivery where needed.  BGMEA also informed them that the ongoing gas supply crisis would gradually improve starting next week. BGMEA president Mahmud Hasan Khan made the observation and request at a meeting with the buyers' forum held virtually on Tuesday. Talking to the FE after the meeting, he said representatives from about two dozen of global apparel buyers, including H&M, Kiabi, Decathlon, among others, were present at the virtual meeting. “We are informed by the concerned authority that the prevailing gas crisis would start improving from August 08 and so convey the same to the buyers,” he told the FE. He also added that he requested the buyers to extend goods delivery time up to two weeks considering the ongoing gas supply crisis for the last two weeks. Though they (buyers) did not directly respond to the request, he said, however, they assured of considering the justified ones as goods delivery doesn’t depend only on gas but on many other issues.

Chinese investment sought to strengthen Bangladesh RMG backward linkage: BGMEA The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has launched a special initiative in collaboration with the Overseas Chinese Association in Bangladesh (OCAIB) to attract Chinese investment and promote joint ventures aimed at strengthening the backward linkage and upstream supply chain of the country's readymade garment (RMG) sector. The initiative also seeks to bring fresh capital and advanced technology into both operational and closed factories, according to a BGMEA press release issued on Tuesday. The decision was taken at a bilateral meeting held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka, today between BGMEA leaders and a high-level delegation from OCAIB, according to BSS report. BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan led the BGMEA delegation. Vice-President (Finance) Mijanur Rahman, Directors Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Joarder Mohammad Hosne Komar Alam and Samiha Azim also attended the meeting.

BGMEA, BTMA to pursue $100b export target The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association and the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association pledged to work together to help the country’s apparel sector achieve $100 billion in exports, saying stronger backward linkage industries would be crucial to reaching the target while increasing domestic value addition. In this regard, two trade bodies signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly organise the Bangladesh International Textile and Apparel Machinery Exhibition, BITMA, aiming to promote technological advancement and enhance the global competitiveness of the country’s textile and apparel industry.The MoU was signed by BTMA president Showkat Aziz Russell and BGMEA president Mahmud Hasan Khan at a ceremony held at the Gulshan Club in the capital on Tuesday.Former BTMA president and A Matin Chowdhury and former BGMEA president Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury (Parvez) also spoke at the event.

Apparel bodies recommend 370 factories for govt stimulus Three textile and apparel trade bodies have recommended 370 closed and struggling factories to the Bangladesh Bank for loans under the government’s Tk 60,000 crore stimulus package. BGMEA submitted 140 garment factories, BTMA recommended 130 textile, spinning, weaving, dyeing, finishing and printing mills, while BKMEA put forward 100 factories.Presidents of the trade bodies confirmed the development to The Daily Star.“We certified the factories only after a third-party audit so that the fund reaches the right recipients,” said BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan.

Buyers seek clarity on gas crisis; BGMEA assures supply to improve soon International buyers have sought assurances over Bangladesh's gas supply situation and the timely shipment of export consignments, while the ready-made garment exporters have said industrial gas supplies are expected to improve after 8 August and return to normal by around 14 August. Attempts by TBS to contact BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu for comment were unsuccessful. Earlier in the day, speaking to journalists after an event in Dhaka's Gulshan, Babu said the government had informed the industry that the country's energy situation would improve significantly over the next two years, allowing businesses to proceed with investment plans. "The government has said the situation will become comfortable within two years. As an association, we will not wait two years before engaging with the government. We will monitor progress every month and continue to follow developments," he said. He added that the gas shortage had reduced production at garment factories by 30% to 40%. "The gas crisis is causing financial losses, but our biggest concern is maintaining buyers' confidence," he said. "That is why we are meeting Buyers Forum representatives to explain the current energy situation, discuss what we expect from them and explore how we can jointly manage the impact."

On July 24, 2026, Washington added a new forced-labour tariff, redrawing the map again. This volatility is the backdrop against which Bangladesh, competing in a $574 billion global apparel export market, must plot its next move. Bangladesh's 2025 was strong on paper: $8.20 billion in US exports, up 11.71 percent, lifting its share to 10.53 percent — inside a market that shrank 1.74 percent in value and 3.70 percent in quantity.

US labour tariffs give Bangladesh strategic edge over China, Vietnam "The new US tariff structure creates a strategic opportunity for Bangladesh’s apparel industry," stated Mohiuddin Rubel, founder & CEO of Bangladesh Apparel Voice and former BGMEA director. "Having a lower effective tariff rate than China and Vietnam encourages international brands to reallocate sourcing lines to Bangladeshi manufacturers. However, relying solely on tariff margins is not a long-term strategy. Global buyers increasingly base procurement on supply chain reliability, environmental compliance, labour rights, and end-to-end material traceability."
