বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে ব্যবসা স্থগিতের সিদ্ধান্ত থেকে সরে এসেছে এলপিপি বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে ব্যবসা স্থগিতের সিদ্ধান্ত থেকে সরে এসেছে পোল্যান্ডের পোশাকের ব্র্যান্ড এলপিপি। রাশিয়ার ক্রেতাপ্রতিষ্ঠান এফইএস রিটেইলের কাছে কয়েকজন রপ্তানিকারকের পাওনাসংক্রান্ত জটিলতায় সম্প্রতি বাংলাদেশে ব্যবসা স্থগিত করার ঘোষণা দিয়েছিল এই ব্র্যান্ড। এখন তারা আগের মতো ব্যবসা পরিচালনা করবে। তৈরি পোশাকশিল্পের মালিকদের সংগঠন বিজিএমইএ ও এলপিপি এসএ এক যৌথ বিবৃতিতে বিষয়টি জানিয়েছে। এতে সই করেন বিজিএমইএর সভাপতি মাহমুদ হাসান খান ও এলপিপি এসএর পরিচালক দোরোতা ইয়ানকোভস্কা-তোমকুভ। আজ মঙ্গলবার বিজিএমইএ বিষয়টি আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে গণমাধ্যমকে জানায়।

LPP to maintain BD operations amid FES payment row The confirmation and clarification came after the apparel apex body -- Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) -- and LPP SA on Monday issued a joint statement to address and clarify public discussions on the alleged unpaid liabilities connected to invoices from FES Retail. BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan and LPP SA Director (purchase) Dorota Jankowska-Tomkow signed the joint statement on behalf of their respective organisations. When asked, the BGMEA president said LPP and FES were different companies and they were looking into the non-payment claims with FES. He said according to the documents, the trade body understood some two dozen factories did not receive goods' payments worth $6.9 million. Talking to the FE, a source engaged in trade with FES and suppliers claimed some 50 factories did not get payments of more than $44 million against goods shipped six months to one year earlier.

Polish retailer LPP will continue sourcing from Bangladesh Polish retailer LPP will continue sourcing from Bangladesh and help facilitate settlement talks over $40 million in disputed payments, rather than pay the amount itself, according to a statement issued yesterday. LPP maintains it is not legally obliged to make the payment, the company said in a written statement issued jointly with BGMEA. It is expected that the payment will be made gradually based on the position LPP shared with BGMEA, the association’s President Mahmud Hasan Khan told The Daily Star. He said the joint statement was issued to prevent misinterpretation of the matter. BGMEA and LPP, in the statement, said the dispute should not adversely affect the wider Bangladeshi apparel sector. They said the matter publicly under discussion involves alleged unpaid liabilities connected to invoices with FES Retail, which LPP said it is not legally obligated to pay. They shared the intention to ensure legal certainty, employee safety and stable business promotion and cooperation in Bangladesh, as per the statement.

Europe’s Garment Slowdown Threatens Bangladesh’s Export Engine Bangladesh’s garment industry is facing a potentially dangerous squeeze as soaring production costs at home collide with weakening consumer demand in its biggest export market, threatening to erode the country’s hard-won position in the global apparel trade. Higher gas and electricity prices, rising wages, expensive financing and exchange-rate volatility are eating into manufacturers’ margins just as inflation and economic uncertainty are forcing European consumers to tighten their belts and buy fewer clothes. The warning has been sounded by Inamul Haq Khan, Senior Vice-President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Managing Director of Ananta Garments Limited, in an exclusive interview with The Daily Observer.

সাভার-আশুলিয়ায় গ্যাস-সংকট: উৎপাদন অর্ধেকে, বেড়েছে ব্যয় গ্যাস-সংকটের কারণে ঢাকার সাভার ও আশুলিয়ার শিল্পকারখানাগুলোয় উৎপাদন ব্যাহত হচ্ছে। প্রয়োজন অনুযায়ী গ্যাস না পাওয়ায় অনেক কারখানাকে বয়লার ও জেনারেটর সচল রাখতে ডিজেলসহ অন্য বিকল্প জ্বালানির ওপর নির্ভর করতে হচ্ছে। এতে একদিকে উৎপাদন ব্যয় যেমন বাড়ছে, তেমনি কমছে উৎপাদনের পরিমাণ। কারখানাসংশ্লিষ্টরা বলছেন, কোনো কোনো কারখানায় উৎপাদন অর্ধেকে নেমে এসেছে। বিজিএমইএর সহসভাপতি ও সফটেক্স কটন লিমিটেডের ব্যবস্থাপনা পরিচালক মো. রেজোয়ান সেলিম বলেন, সংকট এখনো আছে, তবে এক সপ্তাহ আগের তুলনায় বর্তমানে গ্যাসের সরবরাহ কিছুটা বেড়েছে। সরবরাহ আরও বাড়লে শিল্পকারখানাগুলোর সংকটও কিছুটা কমতে পারে।

"While heavy reliance on traditional European and North American markets poses cyclical risks, robust growth in Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands demonstrates that demand remains strong. Expanding into non-traditional destinations and shifting toward high-value, diversified products will be critical over the coming months."

Joint port-customs committee formed to cut trade barriers, speed up cargo clearance The government has decided to form a joint committee comprising the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) and Chittagong Customs House to remove trade barriers, speed up cargo clearance and reduce business costs, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said on Tuesday. The committee will work to improve coordination between port and customs officials so that both agencies can operate more seamlessly, he said. The finance minister made the remarks while briefing journalists outside the Chittagong Port building after a high-level meeting with senior officials of the port and customs. National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman, CPA Chairman and other senior officials attended the meeting.

July RMG exports to major destinations see negative growth Former Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association director Mohiuddin Rubel said that exports decline in the non-traditional market is alarming. ‘The non-traditional market is valued at nearly $100 billion, meaning Bangladesh has room to improve by focusing on value-added products, stronger research, development and innovation to better align with changing demand,’ he said. He also warned that if the ongoing Middle East crisis persisted, Bangladesh’s apparel exports could come under further pressure.

যুক্তরাজ্যের সঙ্গে বাংলাদেশের বাণিজ্য বেড়েছে ১২ শতাংশ। রপ্তানির পরিমাণ ৩৮০ কোটি পাউন্ডে উঠলেও মোট রপ্তানির ৯২ শতাংশই তৈরি পোশাক যুক্তরাজ্যের বাজারে বাংলাদেশের রপ্তানি বেড়েছে। যুক্তরাজ্যের সরকারি পরিসংখ্যান অনুযায়ী, ২০২৬ সালের প্রথম প্রান্তিক (জানুয়ারি-মার্চ) শেষে এক বছরে, অর্থাৎ ২০২৫ সালের মার্চ থেকে ২০২৬ সালের মার্চ পর্যন্ত যুক্তরাজ্যে বাংলাদেশের রপ্তানি বেড়েছে ১৫ দশমিক ১ শতাংশ। এই সময়ে বাংলাদেশে যুক্তরাজ্যের রপ্তানি কমেছে ২ দশমিক ৫ শতাংশ। পরিসংখ্যানে দেখা যাচ্ছে, এ সময় যুক্তরাজ্যে বাংলাদেশের মোট রপ্তানি হয়েছে ৩ দশমিক ৮ বিলিয়ন বা ৩৮০ কোটি পাউন্ড। আগের বছরের একই সময়ের তুলনায় যা ৫০৫ মিলিয়ন বা ৫০ কোটি ৫০ লাখ পাউন্ড বেশি। যুক্তরাজ্যের ডিপার্টমেন্ট ফর বিজনেস অ্যান্ড ট্রেড প্রকাশিত সর্বশেষ ট্রেড অ্যান্ড ইনভেস্টমেন্ট ফ্যাক্টশিটে এসব তথ্য উঠে এসেছে।
