LPP S.A. to ramp up apparel sourcing from Bangladesh The globally renowned Polish apparel brand LPP S.A. has expressed keen interest in substantially increasing its apparel sourcing from Bangladesh. The brand’s Procurement Director Joanna Sikorska expressed this interest during a meeting with BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan at the BGMEA office in the capital’s Uttara on Tuesday. During the meeting, both sides highlighted the importance of building a long-term partnership, ensuring supply chain stability and transparency, and further enhancing the capabilities of Bangladesh’s apparel sector.BGMEA Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan, Vice President (Finance) Mijanur Rahman, and Directors Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Md Hasib Uddin, Nafis-ud-Doula, and Joarder Mohammed Hosne Quamar Alam also participated in the discussion.

EU wants Bangladesh to import more to reduce trade gap European businesses and diplomats have urged Bangladesh to increase imports from the European Union (EU) to help narrow the bloc's large trade deficit with the country. The call comes as the issue has gained fresh relevance after Bangladesh committed to reducing its trade gap with the United States under the reciprocal tariff deal. Speaking at a joint dialogue on business climate at the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida) office in Dhaka on Monday, they also called on Bangladesh to continue strong reforms in key areas, as they want to deepen trade ties with the country.

চট্টগ্রাম বন্দরে ৪১ শতাংশ বর্ধিত মাশুল কার্যকর আইনি বাধা দূর হওয়ায় চট্টগ্রাম বন্দর কর্তৃপক্ষ ৪১ শতাংশ বর্ধিত মাশুল (ট্যারিফ) কার্যকর করেছে। এর ফলে আসন্ন রমজান মাসে আমদানীকৃত পণ্য বাজারে পৌঁছানোর আগেই খরচ বহুগুণ বেড়ে যাবে। বন্দর ব্যবহারকারীরা বলছেন, মাশুল বৃদ্ধির এই ধাক্কা সরাসরি আঘাত করবে সাধারণ ভোক্তার পকেটে। আইনি জটিলতা কেটে যাওয়ায় বিভিন্ন সেবা খাতে ৪১ শতাংশ হারে বাড়ানো মাশুল (ট্যারিফ) আদায়ের ঘোষণা দিয়েছে চট্টগ্রাম বন্দর কর্তৃপক্ষ।

Global sourcing expo opens in Dhaka amid low foreign turnout, high future expectations The first edition of a major international sourcing fair in Dhaka aimed at connecting Bangladeshi exporters with global buyers has seen a disappointing level of foreign participation, although exhibitors and industry stakeholders say it has significant potential to become a major global event. The "Global Sourcing Expo-2025 Dhaka", organised by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) from 1-3 December, features 165 stalls from more than 125 exporting companies across a range of sectors. It is being described as the first "true international" sourcing expo of its kind in Bangladesh, despite the Dhaka International Trade Fair shifting to its new Purbachal venue in 2022.

AmCham holds dialogue on business, investment climate The American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh on Saturday held a dialogue on ‘Bangladesh’s Business and Investment Climate: From Challenges to Competitiveness’ at Holiday Inn Dhaka, said a press release.Dhaka real estate. Participants stressed that enhancing Bangladesh’s business and investment climate was an immediate priority. Discussions covered the need for improved logistics efficiency, smoother customs processes and greater regulatory predictability to support both local and foreign investors. They also highlighted priorities such as energy security, digital trade facilitation, policy continuity, incentives for the reuse and recycling industries and stronger coordination among government agencies to improve global competitiveness.

UK becomes BD's second largest export market on steady shipment growth Bangladesh's exports to the United Kingdom (UK) registered steady growth in the first five months of the ongoing FY26, consolidating the UK's position as the country's second-largest export destination, according to Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) vice-chairman and chief executive Mohammad Hasan Arif. Speaking at a seminar titled "Unlock the UK Market: Preferential Access and Standards for Export Success" at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in the capital's Purbachal, Mr Arif said many Bangladeshi exporters remain unaware of the UK's Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), limiting their ability to take full advantage of the preferential access offered.
