Spinners, apparel exporters differ over extra duty on yarn imports Apparel and knitwear manufacturers have opposed a proposed 20 percent safeguard tariff after local spinners asked the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission to recommend it on imports of 100 percent cotton and blended yarns in the 20-30 count range. The manufacturers said such a tariff would force them to buy local yarn at higher prices, hurt production, and ultimately affect exports. Local spinners, however, argued that the safeguard duty is necessary to protect the domestic industry. In the last week of December, they accused India of dumping cheap yarn in Bangladesh and said they were sitting on Tk 12,000 crore of unsold stock. Domestic spinners claim they can meet the entire national demand for 100 percent cotton and blended yarns, including PC, CVC, PV, and grey melange.

Bangladesh RMG exports lose ground in US, EU Bangladesh’s ready-made garment exports lost momentum in most major destinations in the first half (July–December) of the current financial year 2025–26 amid mounting domestic and global challenges. Mohiuddin Rubel, former director of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, said that global demand had weakened significantly, while Bangladesh’s concentration on basic, low-priced products limited its pricing flexibility. He emphasised the need for product and market diversification, along with a transition to higher-value products, to remain competitive.

এনবিআরের উদ্যোগ : ই-ভ্যাট ফেরতের ব্যবস্থা চালু, ৩০ মিনিটে আবেদন করতে পারবেন ব্যবসায়ীরা ভ্যাট রিফান্ড পেতে ব্যবসায়ীদের আর সরকারি দপ্তরে দপ্তরে ঘুরতে হবে না। এখন থেকে অনলাইনে সরাসরি করদাতার ব্যাংক হিসাবেই ভ্যাট রিফান্ডের টাকা পাঠানো হবে। এ জন্য ই-ভ্যাট রিফান্ড-ব্যবস্থা চালু করেছে জাতীয় রাজস্ব বোর্ড (এনবিআর)। নতুন এই ব্যবস্থায় সর্বোচ্চ ৩০ মিনিটের মধ্যে রিফান্ড আবেদন করা যাবে বলে জানিয়েছেন সংস্থাটির চেয়ারম্যান আবদুর রহমান খান। বুধবার ঢাকার রাজস্ব ভবনে অনলাইন ভ্যাট রিফান্ড-ব্যবস্থার উদ্বোধন করেন এনবিআর চেয়ারম্যান আবদুর রহমান খান।

Export incentive rates to remain unchanged in H2 of FY26 The government has decided to keep the existing export incentive and cash assistance rates unchanged in various sectors in the second half of the current FY26 (January 1 to June 30, 2026). As a result, the rate at which the incentives were given to exporters from July 1 to December 31, 2025, will remain effective for the next six months.A directive in this regard was issued by the Monitoring Cell of the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday (January 7). The directive states that the export incentive or cash assistance rates have not been changed in any new sector in the second half of the current fiscal year.

ডিসেম্বরে অর্থনীতিতে গতি কিছুটা বেড়েছে ২০২৫ সালের শেষ মাস ডিসেম্বরে দেশের সামগ্রিক অর্থনৈতিক কার্যক্রমে সম্প্রসারণের গতি আগের মাস নভেম্বরের তুলনায় সামান্য বেড়েছে। যদিও এই গতি খুব শক্তিশালী নয়, তবু রাজনৈতিক অনিশ্চয়তা ও ব্যবসায়িক চাপের মধ্যেও অর্থনীতি যে এখনো সম্প্রসারণের ধারায় রয়েছে, তা সাম্প্রতিক পারচেজিং ম্যানেজার্স ইনডেক্স (পিএমআই) সূচকে স্পষ্ট হয়ে উঠেছে। ব্যবসায়ী ও উদ্যোক্তাদের সংগঠন মেট্রোপলিটন চেম্বার অব কমার্স অ্যান্ড ইন্ডাস্ট্রি (এমসিসিআই) এবং গবেষণা প্রতিষ্ঠান পলিসি এক্সচেঞ্জ অব বাংলাদেশের যৌথভাবে প্রকাশিত পিএমআই প্রতিবেদন বিশ্লেষণে দেখা যায়, ডিসেম্বর মাসে দেশের পিএমআই সূচক দাঁড়িয়েছে ৫৪ দশমিক ২ পয়েন্টে, যা নভেম্বর মাসে ছিল ৫৪। সূচক ৫০-এর ওপরে থাকায় এটি সামগ্রিকভাবে অর্থনীতির সম্প্রসারণ নির্দেশ করছে।
