BGMEA President stresses on value addition in RMG through local yarn and fabrics

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan met with Md. Abdul Mannan, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles and Jute at the secretariat on October 13.

Md. Nasir Uddin, Vice President of BGMEA, Mohammad Abul Kalam, NDC, additional secretary (Textiles) of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, and Md Nuruzzaman, Director General of the Department of Textiles were also present at the meeting.

They had discussions on different issues related to the RMG and textile industry, including ways to increase value addition in the apparel sector by using yarn and fabrics produced by local textiles mills.

They laid emphasis on developing capacity of local textile mills in producing yarn and fabrics which have high demand in the garment industry of Bangladesh.

They also talked about the potential of making fabrics from jute and using them in garment manufacturing to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly apparel in the global market. BGMEA President Faruque Hassan urged the Textile and Jute Ministry to take more research initiatives to make yarn and fabrics from jute as global brands and consumers are increasing turning their focusing on environmentally sustainable clothing.
