BGMEA Administrator Anwar Hossain emphasises investment in skills development, digital literacy to address automation challenges

LightCastle Partners and Policy Exchange recently convened a thought-provoking policy roundtable with policymakers, government officials, development partners, and industry leaders. The discussion focused on key challenges and opportunities for sustainable development in Bangladesh's Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sector.

Speaking at the event, BGMEA Administrator Anwar Hossain emphasized the importance of targeted investment in skills development and worker retraining. He stressed the need for upskilling initiatives that prioritize digital literacy and technical competencies to help workers adapt to automated systems, ensuring they remain competitive in the evolving workforce.

Anwar Hossain also highlighted the critical need to break societal perceptions about women’s ability to handle advanced machinery, advocating for equitable access to new opportunities in the sector.

He added that RMG industry could address global environmental concerns by adopting sustainable practices such as waste reduction, recycling, and resource optimization—helping to both protect the environment and strengthen economic resilience.
