A delegation of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), led by President Mahmud Hasan Khan, paid a courtesy call on 4 April 2026 to the Hon’ble Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Zakaria Taher, MP.

Also present at the meeting was Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan (Dipu), MP.

Members of the BGMEA delegation included Vice President Md. Rezwan Selim, Vice President (Finance) Mijanur Rahman, Vice President Vidiya Amrit Khan, and Vice President Md. Shehab Udduza Chowdhury.

During the meeting, various important issues related to the country’s garment industry were discussed. The BGMEA delegation emphasized the need for amendments to the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC), particularly concerning provisions relevant to the apparel sector.

BGMEA leaders noted that Bangladesh’s garment industry has already achieved remarkable success in ensuring workplace safety, which has been internationally recognized and appreciated. In this context, they urged for practical and necessary revisions to the BNBC to better reflect the realities of the industry.

Hon’ble Minister Zakaria Taher attentively listened to the delegation and assured that the matter would be given due importance and necessary steps would be taken accordingly.
