A top delegation from BGMEA held a cordial and productive meeting with Tarique Rahman to discuss the current challenges facing the country’s readymade garment industry, its future prospects, and ways to ensure sustainable growth in export trade.

Also present at the meeting were Zakaria Taher Sumon, Ehsanul Haque Milon, Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, and Mahdi Amin.

The high-level meeting took place on Monday, 11 May, at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Cabinet Division at Bangladesh Secretariat. Mahmud Hasan Khan led the BGMEA delegation.

The discussion placed strong emphasis on product diversification, expanding export opportunities, and further strengthening Bangladesh’s competitiveness in the global market. The Prime Minister called on BGMEA to take a leading role in export diversification, particularly by increasing the use of man-made fibers (MMF) to produce higher-value apparel and improve Bangladesh’s global competitiveness.

Mahmud Hasan Khan welcomed the government’s timely decision to create a special fund for reopening closed factories. He also urged careful selection of eligible factories to ensure full transparency and prevent any misuse of funds.

At the same time, he proposed special policy support for factories currently struggling to survive amid global and domestic challenges, so that they can remain operational and continue protecting the jobs of millions of workers.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman agreed with BGMEA’s proposals and stated that his government would give equal importance to both reopening closed factories and supporting struggling operational factories. He assured that necessary policy support would be provided for genuinely affected factories based on BGMEA’s recommendations.

Other members of the BGMEA delegation included Inamul Haq Khan, Md. Rezwan Selim, Mijanur Rahman, Vidiya Amrit Khan, Md. Shehab Udduza Chowdhury, and Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury.

BGMEA expressed deep gratitude to the Prime Minister for his timely guidance, sincere cooperation, and commitment toward the sustainable development of the country’s industrial sector and economy.
