BGMEA Distributes Relief Materials Among Flood-Affected Families in Chattogram

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has continued its humanitarian assistance initiatives as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts to help people affected by the devastating floods caused by continuous rainfall and hill torrents across Greater Chattogram.

As part of these ongoing efforts, BGMEA distributed essential relief materials among flood-affected families in different areas of Banshkhali and Satkania upazilas of Chattogram district on Wednesday, 15 July 2026.

The relief distribution programme was attended by Chairmen of BGMEA Standing Committees Wadud Mohammad Chowdhury, Kazi Md. Shafiqul Islam (Titu), Arshad-ur-Rahman, and Bashir Uddin Ahmed, along with BGMEA officials.

Essential food items and daily necessities, including rice, lentils, edible oil, flattened rice (chira), potatoes, and soap, were distributed among affected families in West Gunagari, Kalipur, Gondamara, and Chanua unions of Banshkhali Upazila, as well as Charti, Amilaish, Nalua, Kanchana, Eochia, and Madarsha unions of Satkania Upazila.

Earlier, on 14 July 2026, BGMEA handed over 200 bags of relief materials to Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali for distribution among flood-affected people. Receiving the relief materials, the Commissioner highly appreciated BGMEA's humanitarian initiative and expressed his sincere gratitude for the association's support to the flood victims. He also assured that the relief materials would be distributed promptly, transparently, and in an orderly manner to the affected families.

BGMEA leaders said they had the opportunity to visit the flood-affected areas and witness firsthand the immense suffering of the affected people. They noted that many families were still enduring severe hardship and emphasized that coordinated participation by the private sector, alongside government initiatives, is essential in responding effectively to such disasters. Guided by this sense of responsibility, BGMEA has continued its humanitarian assistance programme and will further extend its support whenever necessary.

They further stated that BGMEA has consistently played a leading role not only in the development of Bangladesh's readymade garment industry but also in fulfilling its social and humanitarian responsibilities. Standing beside people during humanitarian crises remains one of BGMEA's core commitments, and the association will continue such support during future disasters across the country.

BGMEA also announced that on Thursday, 16 July 2026, it would formally hand over another 200 bags of relief materials to Superintendent of Police of Chattogram District, Md. Masud Alam, BPM, for distribution among flood-affected families in different parts of the district.
