A discussion meeting with Kazuiki Kataoka, Chief Representative, JETRO Bangladesh, and Ms. Maria Howlader FCA, Secretary General & Board Director of the Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JBCCI), was held yesterday (7 September 2026) at the Conference Hall of the World Trade Centre (WTC), Agrabad, Chattogram, organized by CCCI.
During the discussion, BGMEA Vice-President Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury highlighted the significant potential of the Japanese market for Bangladesh’s RMG sector. He noted Japan’s USD 24 billion textile and apparel import market, while Bangladesh’s current RMG exports to Japan stand at around USD 1.4 billion.
He also highlighted Bangladesh’s strengths in competitive pricing, compliance, manufacturing capacity and reliability, and informed that the BGMEA Japan Desk will be inaugurated on 22 September 2026 to strengthen connections between BGMEA member factories and Japanese buyers.
Director Syed Mohammed Tanvir also highlighted the potential of the Japan–Bangladesh EPA, along with Japanese investment and financing opportunities for Bangladesh’s private sector.
The meeting was chaired by Mohammed Amirul Haque, President, CCCI. Former BGMEA Director Khondokar Belayat Hossain, along with other business leaders, also attended the meeting.
