The Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA), in association with Savor International Limited, organized a seminar titled “Energy Security at Risk: From Import Dependency to Renewable Transition” recently at SAFECON 2026 in Dhaka.
The seminar brought together policymakers, industry leaders and energy experts to discuss Bangladesh’s growing energy challenges against the backdrop of global market volatility and rising dependence on imported energy.
As a distinguished panelist, Ms. Nishat Hamid, Chairman, Standing Committee on Energy Optimization, BGMEA, and Director, Shasha Garments & EOS Textile Mills, highlighted the progress already made by Bangladesh’s RMG industry in environmental sustainability, particularly in the adoption of renewable energy.
Drawing on the industry’s experience, she emphasized that accelerating the transition will require more than the availability of renewable technologies. Factories need easier access to technically viable renewable energy solutions, affordable green finance and supportive regulatory frameworks. Together, these elements can help the industry move towards a more secure, sustainable and resilient energy future.
Jalal Ahmed, Chairman of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission, attended the seminar as the Chief Guest. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Md. Ziaur Rahman Khan, Professor at BUET, while the session was moderated by Dr. Khondaker Golam Moazzem, Research Director at CPD.
