On August 2, 2025, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) organized a press conference at its office regarding the reduction of U.S. tariffs on Bangladeshi exports.

The conference, chaired by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan, was attended by Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan (Bablu), Vice Presidents Md. Rezwan Selim, (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, Md. Shehab Udduza Chowdhury, Directors Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Mohammad Abdur Rahim, Faisal Samad, Md. Hasib Uddin, Mohammad Abdus Salam, Nafis Ud Doula, Majumdar Arifur Rahman, Jowarder Mohammad Hosne Komar Alam, Asef Kamal Pasha, Rumana Rashid, and Samiha Azim.

In the press conference, BGMEA President described the recent U.S. government decision to reduce the additional tariff on garments imported from Bangladesh from 35% to 20% as a great relief for the Bangladeshi garment industry. He expressed deep gratitude to the interim government, especially the trade and security advisors and their team, for their successful negotiations.

The BGMEA President also stated that there is no room for complacency with this achievement and that policy support from the government is expected to continue alongside industry efforts to enhance competitiveness. He expressed hope that, through the joint efforts of industry owners, the government, labor organizations, and civil society, this tariff barrier could turn into a gateway to new opportunities rather than an obstacle.
