BGMEA Senior Vice President Inamul Haq Khan, Vice President Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan, and Co-Chair of the Standing Committee on Decarbonisation Kamran Sadique participated in the high-level roundtable “Advancing Decarbonisation for Apparel in a Changing Energy Landscape”, held on 2 September 2026.

Jointly organised by HSBC Bangladesh, Apparel Impact Institute (Aii), the Embassy of Sweden in Bangladesh, and the Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh, the roundtable brought together senior representatives from the government, financial sector, global brands, development partners, and the apparel industry to discuss accelerating access to reliable and competitively priced clean energy for Bangladesh’s RMG sector.

During the discussion, Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan highlighted the growing importance of renewable energy adoption for the competitiveness of Bangladesh’s RMG industry, particularly as the European market and global apparel value chains increasingly move toward low-carbon production. She emphasized that the industry requires adequate concessional financing and financial support to overcome existing energy challenges and accelerate the transition toward cleaner energy.

The discussion also highlighted the significant scale of investment required for the transition. According to Aii’s research, approximately USD 6.6 billion in investment could be required to achieve 50% decarbonisation of Bangladesh’s apparel manufacturing sector by 2030.
