BGMEA President stresses on branding Bangladesh to propel the country forward

Faruque Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), emphasized the critical role of branding in attracting investments and solidify Bangladesh’s position on the global stage. 

Speaking at a business seminar organized by the Ministry of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Faruque Hassan also stressed the need for nation branding to propel the country forward in its pursuit of further growth. 

Ahasanul Islam (Titu) MP, State Minister of the Ministry of Commerce; Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Senior Secretary of the Commerce Ministry; A. H. M. Ahsan, Vice Chairman of EPB; and Abdul Muktadir, Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceuticals Industries, also addressed the seminar titled “Branding Bangladesh” held at the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Dhaka on February 6.

In his speech, Faruque Hassan said Bangladesh has proudly secured its position as the second-largest apparel exporting country globally, with garments from the country reaching over 160 countries.

He emphasized the need to strengthen this position through effective nation branding, stating that it is time for Bangladesh to be recognized not just as a manufacturer but as a brand of its own.

Addressing misconceptions and biased perceptions about the RMG industry is a top priority for BGMEA, said Faruque Hassan, adding that “Our focus on apparel diplomacy includes efforts to tell the positive story of our

industry and its transformation.”

He further said, “We have taken initiatives such as the first-ever Made in Bangladesh Week in 2022, and the Bangladesh Apparel Summit in Melbourne last year to showcase positive developments of our industry along with its strengths.”

The BGMEA President urged all paly roles from their respective positions in sharing untold stories of the country’s achievements to enhance the global perception of Bangladesh. 

He stressed that renewing the global position requires a concerted effort in portraying the true image of the nation and its industries, including the RMG sector. 

Ambassadors of different countries including Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and Indonesia were present the event.
