BGMEA Stresses Safe Eid Travel for Workers

A significant Security Coordination Meeting was held today, 17 May 2026, at Chattogram Dampara Police Lines ahead of the upcoming Eid-Ul-Adha. The meeting was chaired by the Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police. BGMEA Director Enamul Aziz Chowdhury, senior law enforcement officials, industrial police, labor representatives, transportation-related individuals, and representatives of various organizations were present at the event.

Speaking at the meeting, Enamul Aziz Chowdhury said the Security Coordination Meeting was both timely and important to ensure safe, smooth, and comfortable travel for garment workers and the general public across Chattogram and surrounding regions during Eid. He thanked the Chattogram Metropolitan Police for taking such an effective and people-oriented initiative.

He said the ready-made garment industry is one of the key driving forces of Bangladesh’s economy, and hundreds of thousands of workers directly and indirectly connected to the sector travel to their hometowns during Eid. Therefore, ensuring security on roads, railways, and waterways, easing traffic congestion, and maintaining normal law and order during the Eid travel period are critically important.

He expressed strong hope that through coordinated efforts among the administration, law enforcement agencies, industry owners, and workers’ representatives, this year’s Eid journey would be safe, comfortable, and peaceful.

He also noted that BGMEA has always stood alongside the government’s positive initiatives and has been actively supporting stability and law and order in industrial areas, and that this cooperation will continue in the future.

Referring to common travel risks during Eid, he highlighted that long-distance transport often sees overcharging of fares, reckless competitive driving, and accidents caused by unskilled drivers. In some cases, assistants operate vehicles in place of licensed drivers, creating serious safety concerns. He stressed the importance of effective action by the relevant authorities to prevent such irregularities and protect lives and property.

He also specially requested support from the police administration in easing port-related traffic congestion before Eid, expressing confidence that coordinated efforts among all stakeholders would help ensure a safe and peaceful Eid travel experience this year.
