On 12 November, a constructive exchange meeting was held at the BGMEA Chattogram premises between BGMEA leaders and the Customs Bond Commissionerate, Chattogram. The meeting was presided over by BGMEA Vice President Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury.
The discussion focused on simplifying bond-related activities in the ready-made garment sector, improving policies and procedures, and enhancing mutual cooperation. Several important issues were highlighted during the meeting, including the simplification of FOC-based imports, the addition of new HS codes, streamlining audit procedures, exemption of 15% VAT on inter-bond transfers, and easing bond services for small and medium factories.
Commissioner Md. Mahfuzul Haque Bhuiyan stated that some policies have already been relaxed and coordination with the NBR is underway on other matters. He urged everyone to onboard the UP-CBMS system, which will be launched from 1 December 2025.
BGMEA leaders expressed hope that closer cooperation among customs, bond, and banking authorities would help make the Chattogram region’s ready-made garment sector more dynamic.
