Business leaders demand end to political violence

Business leaders demanded an immediate end to the ongoing political violence since it has made all the people of the country suffer badly and dealt a serious blow to the economy.

They made the demand at a human chain organized by BGMEA in association with BKMEA, BTMEA and other business associations in front of BGMEA Complex in Dhaka on January 28.
While addressing the human chain program, the leaders of different business associations and workers’ organizations urged the government and all political parties to find out a workable solution to the ongoing political problems through discussion.

In his address, BGMEA President Md. Atiqul Islam said that the RMG industry is going to face image crisis due to the ongoing political violence in the country. Representatives of buyers have not been able to come to Bangladesh to place their work orders because of the continued violence in the country, he said adding that as a result work orders have already dropped by 30% .

The BGMEA President urged all the political parties to shun any program that hampers the normal life of people and hinders economic development. He also called on them to observe peaceful political programs for the sake of people and its economy.
Md. Atiqul Islam also urged the government to provide security to all, including the RMG industry, and ensure congenial atmosphere for doing business peacefully in the country.

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI), Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Dhaka (MCCI), Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI), International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (ICC-B), Exporters Association of Bangladesh, American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh, Bangladesh Employers Federation, Bangladesh Association of Banks, Bangladesh Insurance Association, Bangladesh Truck and Covered Van Owners Association, Bangladesh Bus and Truck Owners Association, Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association, Bangladesh Terry Towel And Linen Manufacturers And Exporters Association, Bangladesh Specialized Textile Mills and Power loom Industries Association, Bangladesh Embroideries Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Bangladesh Backward Linkage Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Bangladesh Garment Accessories and Packing, Manufacturing and Exporters Association, Bangladesh Cotton Association, Bangladesh Garment Printing Association, Bangladesh Knit Dyeing Owners Association, Bangladesh Export-oriented Garments Washing Association, Bangladesh Finished Lather and Lather Goods and Footwear Exporters Association, Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Bangladesh Association of Public listed Companies, Bangladesh Hosiery Association, Bangladesh Commercial Welfare Association, Bangladesh Garments Executives Association, BICDA, Sampadak Parishad, ATCO and different workers’ associations took part in the human chain.
The participants of the human chain prayed for those who fall victim to the ongoing violence across the country.
