More development of RMG industry can empower more women: BGMEA President

BGMEA President Md. Siddiqur Rahman said that more development of the RMG industry means more opportunity of women empowerment in Bangladesh.
The RMG industry has created employment for more than 3 million women, mostly poor and vulnerable, transforming their lives, he said adding that the expansion of the industry will pave way for creating employment opportunities for more women in the sector.
He made the remarks while addressing a roundtable discussion on women empowerment organized by the Prothom Alo in association with Standard Chartered Bank at the newspaper’s office in Dhaka on 25 February.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki attended the discussion as chief guest.
Director General of Family Planning Dr. Kazi Mustafa Sarwar, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Naser Ezaz Bijoy, and Director of Disaster Management Institute at Dhaka University Professor Dr. Mahbuba Nasreen, among others, spoke at the discussion which was moderated by Associate Editor of Prothom Alo Abdul Qayyum.
