New chief of Bangladesh Cotton Association meets BGMEA President

Newly elected President of Bangladesh Cotton Association (BCA) Muhammad Ayub called on BGMEA President Faruque Hassan at BGMEA’s PR office in Gulshan, Dhaka on February 9.

They had discussions about the current situation of the global cotton market including demand, supply and price stability and also the issue of diversifying cotton sourcing.

They expressed willingness to work together to assess international cotton market situation in terms of future demand and supply so that the spinning and the RMG industries make their business plans accordingly.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan congratulated the new BCA leadership and hoped they would work in collaboration with stakeholders for strengthening the cotton supply chain for the RMG and textile sector.

He urged the association leadership to encourage their members in importing good quality cotton as fabric quality depends on cotton quality.

He also called on the BCA to explore ways to increase cotton production in Bangladesh to meet the growing demand of local market.

Cotton is the main feedstock of the export-oriented garment export industry in Bangladesh as 75% of the total exported garments are produced from cotton. Bangladesh is the second largest cotton importer in the world.
