P4G Global Director meets BGMEA President

Ian de Cruz, Global Director of P4G, along with Hali McKinley Lester, Communications Specialist of P4G, met BGMEA President Faruque Hassan to understand the status quo of circularity in Bangladesh, and explore the readiness of the RMG industry to adopt circular economy.

As part of their meeting with regional stakeholders, they visited the BGMEA Complex in Uttara on September 10 and had discussions with the BGMEA leaders on the issues of circularity in the industry.

In the meeting, they discussed different challenges and opportunities of introducing a circular economy system in Bangladesh’s RMG industry, retaining the value of the textile waste, and closing the material loop by supporting BGMEA and other RMG allied industries by creating a business model for prospective investors, and through impact investing.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said Bangladesh has the potential to be a front-runner in adopting circularity in the RMG industry.

He also underscored the importance of circularity to achieving the BGMEA’s strategic vision of increasing sustainable material mix by 50% by 2030.

He invited the Global Director and the Communication Specialist of P4G to join the Made in Bangladesh Week to be organized by BGMEA on 12-18 November this year.

BGMEA Director Asif Ashraf, Barrister Vidiya Amrit Khan, and Founder and CEO of Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE) Mostafiz Uddin also attended the meeting.
