All RMG Factories reopen today

Garment makers yesterday decided to reopen their industrial units today after two days of production suspention following the Savar building collapse.

“We are ready to reopen our factories tomorrow [today]. We plea to the government for security so that no untoward incident takes place,” Atiqul Islam, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), said at media briefing at its Dhaka office.

“We welcome the government for arresting the owner of the faulty plaza, Sohel Rana,” he said, demanding arrest of the designers and officials of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha, who approved construction of such a faulty building.

BGMEA had already formed a nine-member team to investigate the collapse of Rana Plaza on Saturday. The team is scheduled to submit its report in 10 days.

The trade body also urged the solvent people at home and abroad to donate money for the Savar victims at the IFIC Bank Karwan Bazar Branch, AC NO 1017124226001. The swift code of the account is IFICBDDH017.
