A round table was held in Dhaka on 23 February to discuss ways to facilitate sustainable production in the textile and garment sector in Asia.
BGMEA and SLSG, GIZ jointly organized the discussion which was attended by different stakeholders in the RMG and textile industries.
BGMEA Senior Vice President Faruque Hassan attended the session as a panelist while BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mohammed Nasir delivered the welcome speech at the round table.
While speaking at the round table Faruque Hassan said, “Bangladesh RMG industry is the only example of the world where each and every factory went through world class safety inspection. Moreover all the data are available in the websites that ensures the transparency of our inspections.”

“This helps us in building image in the world and also branding our sector as a safest industry in the whole world,” he added.
In his welcome address, Mohammed Nasir said that as far as sustainability in the textile supply chain is concerned, the issues of safer, dignified, decent workplace along-with environmentally responsible supply chain are the priorities; and Bangladesh has made a significant progress in these areas.
“We have also made remarkable progress in green and sustainable industrialization. Already 67 factories have achieved LEED certification by United States Green Building Council (USGBC), of which 13 are platinum. 220 more factories are in the pipeline for getting USGBC certification and many more are preparing for it,” the BGMEA Vice President (Finance) said.
