A special meeting was held at the BGMEA Chattogram Regional Office with Mr. Mohammad Mahbubul Hasan, Deputy Inspector General of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE), Chattogram, and officials from his office. The meeting was chaired by BGMEA Vice President Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury.

The meeting discussed complexities related to the renewal of factory licenses in the readymade garment (RMG) sector in the Chattogram region, challenges in securing work orders, and the potential impact on production activities and workers’ employment. To address the existing issues, BGMEA Vice President Mohammad Rafique Chowdhury proposed forming a joint committee comprising representatives from DIFE and BGMEA to undertake joint inspections and facilitate the renewal of factory licenses. Deputy Inspector General Mohammad Mahbubul Hasan welcomed the proposal and assured that DIFE would work in coordination with BGMEA to resolve the issues. A joint team will be formed promptly, and a report on the meeting will be submitted to the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The meeting was attended by BGMEA Directors Md. M. Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Enamul Aziz Chowdhury, and Rakibul Alam Chowdhury; Chairman of the various Standing Committees Odud Mohammad Chowdhury; Kazi Shafiqul Islam (Titu), Chairman of the Religious Affairs Standing Committee; Chowdhury Naim Rahman, Chairman of the Banking Standing Committee; Bijoy Shekhar Das, Chairman of the Arbitration Standing Committee; Arshad Ur Rahman, Chairman of the BGMEA School Committee; and Faizul Matin, Chairman of the Sweater Affairs Standing Committee. A large number of RMG entrepreneurs from the Chattogram region, along with senior officials of DIFE, were also present.

The meeting emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation among the relevant stakeholders to resolve factory license renewal issues promptly, ensure the uninterrupted operation of industrial establishments, and safeguard workers’ employment.
