US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat held a meeting with the leaders of BGMEA, including its President Md. Siddiqur Rahman and Vice President (Finance) Mohammed Nasir on 18 October.
BGMEA Directors Miran Ali and Md. Munir Hossain were also present at the meeting.
They had a discussion on different RMG related issues, including mutual cooperation in the development of Bangladesh’s RMG industry.
In the meeting the BGMEA leaders expressed the concerns of gradual decline in Bangladesh’s RMG exports to the US markets in recent times. In response, the US Ambassador recommended various steps, including reducing lead time in shipment and delivery of apparel products, to overcome the situation.
She stressed the need for enhancing the capacity and efficiency of the Chittagong Port to reduce lead time.
The US Ambassador also praised the role of Bangladesh, especially Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for dealing with Rohingya issue with humanity.
